My daughter's dance recital was last Saturday... I've added a pic of her in her ballet outfit. She took 2 dances this year, ballet and jazz. I'll have to add her jazz pic to a response since I can only put 1 pic on the discussion! I'm so proud of her, she did great and looked wonderful! I wish I could share the videos here on Mylot. Has your child ever taken a dance class, or have you been to a child's dance recital before?

I have not had a child take dance yet, but I could see my daughter doing it when she gets older maybe. I am sure she would be good at it, but I am not sure if she would behave long enough to learn anything. I am replying through email, so I will have to check out the pictures after I respond to this.

My brother is convinced that I need to get her into gymnastics. Her balance is awesome, so he things she would be good at it. I also thing she would be good at dance. Only time will tell I guess. Did your daughter decided she likes one better than the other?

I've thought about getting my kids into gymnastics too, especially my older son when he was younger. He was voted the best tumbler in preschool, lol. She hasn't said that she has a favorite dance, she just keeps telling me she wants to do tap as well because some of her friends do. She does love dance, and I know she wouldn't give it up if I forced her to. Actually the day she came home from her recital she cried because it was all over! I know tap and ballet are the most popular, because they're the more well known. Personally though, if you're deciding which of the 3 to go with for your daughter, I'd suggest either ballet or jazz. As I said, Jazz is more faced paced. They jump around and move around a lot more. Ballet is mostly standing still but they do a bit of jumping and moving around. Tap is completely standing still, especially for the little ones. Those tap shoes are so slippery so they don't let the kids move in them at all until they know what they're doing. So for the first few years it's just standing still and tapping your feet... that's why I've kept my daughter out of it thus far. I want her to get in it just for the experience because I think this is something she'll stick with for years to come... but it will depend on the finances.

Well she's only 2 now... my daughter was over hyper at that age too, and sometimes still is. That's why she's not doing tap yet (it's too slow), although if I could afford it I'd seriously consider adding that next year as well. Here they start the dancers at 3 years old, they obviously aren't very good yet, but they're just too adorable. They mix the recital up so you see a group of little girls, then a group of high school aged girls to show you what their talents will be like in a few years if they stick with it. My daughter is good at it, and she loves it. This was her first year doing 2 dances, the last 2 years it was just ballet. She wanted to add a 2nd cause all her friends do at least 2, so I chose jazz because it's a faster pace.

My daughter does take anything like that. I would like her to but she is too shy. I tried to talk her into playing ayso soccer this year or cheerleading but she didn't want to. I don't know if I should make her try it or just let her go. My mom never made me do anything and now i kind of wish i had done something.

I signed my 6 year old son up for soccer for the first time this past fall, and on the day of the first practice he actually cried because he did not want to play. I got him out there anyways, and eventually made him stop crying by telling him he'd get an award at the end of the season. Once he finally gave it a try, he loved it, and he'd have no problem signing up next year... or trying other sports for that matter.

Hey kats! Your daughter looks absolutely adorable! She is so cute! What a sweet little ballerina! I wish you could share the video! It's been a long time since I have seen any kids in a recital! Most of my friends seem to all have boys! My godchild is a boy and I used to go to his soccer and karate practices! But I did miss out on seeing the girly stuff!

She is my only girl, and she's a bit more spoiled than the boys. She got to take 2 dances and she did baton too. My older 2 boys did soccer.. and I signed them up for basketball but they didn't finish the season. That's it for them. I'd get them into baseball which is starting soon, but I just can't afford it. I might try to find a way to post the videos on my profile... I'll start a discussion about it if I find the way to do that.

I have to tell you that my daughter is the only child on the Island that could not dance! It was so funny as when the class would dance she would be going left whilst the rest of the class would be going right. She always thought that she did well and we never told her otherwise. Now it is just a funny memory. I am so happy for you and many congratulations to your daughter. Blessings.
