Is it just me or are kids spending way too much time inside the house? I think they're spending too much in front of the television, spending too much time in front of the PC, playing games, etc.
Could something go wrong because of this?
A study presented by Cartoon Network actually triggered this discussion: http://thingswelovetohate.blogspot.com/2009/03/kids-dont-go-out-and-play-enough.html

u are so right. most of them don't know what it is to go out & play. when we were kids we stayed out till mother made us come in. i think they do stay in & play too many games & watch tv. when my grandson comes over we go out if the weather permits. he is 4 years old & got a wi for christmas. of course i think his dad, my son wanted it to. i think he needs to be outside more. i don't know if it could cause anything bad to happen but kids need to be kids.

modern society just like this .People are as busy as a bee .they seldom to go outside for body buliding .they tend to be lazy one just stay at home for very boring things .such scene is very common now .AS a partent ,you should have more time to talk with your children .encourage them to plan some funny thins like travelling .

I think it depends on the parents... my daughter is 3 but she prefers to play rather than watch tv... but she still watches cartoon at night... but her play time is a lot more than her tv time... but with my niece... she watches a lot of cartoons... but in the afternoon... she prefers to go outside to play with her friends...

Yes I would agree with you kids do not go out to play enough but instead are consumed with TV and more so video games.
When I was a kid I would love to go out and play with my friends instead of sitting inside the house.
I think today’s kids are really missing out on some great times and I would think the parents should play a role in developing outdoor interests with their children.

I agree, I think that this is why it's impotant to get your kid involved with some kind of sport or other after-school activity, because it's so easy to fall into the habit of going home and sitting in front of the TV/computer and doing nothing. It's kind of sad.
Nice blog, by the way.

Oyenkai-
I do agree that our kids today are getting very little time outside. Did you know that most schools have cut back recess time and PE class? In elementary schools across America elementary students are only having PE class 1-2 times per week, not every day. Right now fitness Geru Richard Simmons is petitioning congress to make PE class mandatory every day in every school across America. I hope they pass that soon.
I think too that we have to find activities as families to participate in. There is a book, I can't recall the exact name but it was written by a man about the shrinking area of a child's playland. Meaning, years ago kids used to walk miles to school ,and now they are bussed, etc. Yet, with today's technology they are actually crossing barriers we couldn't as children. So though a trade off in some respects, in others they have more access to the world than we did.
I think if we begin taking them out more into nature, etc and still making use of the world of the internet, cyberworld, etc we can give our children much more.

When we were children there were only one television channel and then came another television channels and two television channels in the television and the cartoons were shown mostly on the weekends. Most of the time we used to spend lots of time outside the house playing different types of games like hide and seek and lots of other games. Now a days the television and computer games had made the children to stay inside the house rather than outside the house. I think most of the children prefer to watch television rather than play outside.

hi there :)
this generation is very different, kids have their own interest unlike before my parents (and i know your parents are doing this statement too LOL) "in our younger years we do this we do that. we are not like you..hard headed blah blah blah" of course as years go by there are some changes, like now the technology, right? am a young mom (and proud of it ) having a kid and raising him is not that easy, a learning process some techniques i follow or inherit it with my parents (especially my mom, the way she raised us with my lil bro) but some can't be apply to my son my son, it's very different approach...
like what you've stated in your blog they are more on indoor activities, that's why kids don't have broad adventure or exploring their environment coz they are just staying in four corners of their house, it's nice if the parents will instill and have the first move to encourage their children to go out, i think it is more of a family bonding... if they will just allow their kids to do it on their own i think it will be not their life style, you want them to go out but they see you infront of your computers... it's better if you set family day like going out or even just be with your child in the playground to have an outdoor activities.
We don't have to set our life in a complicated way, that's why we have a word "limitation", and parents play an important role in raising with their children.
just my POV

When I'm a little child,I aways paly outside after I have the supper, and I always play till the nightfall if my mum didn't call me back.and at the weekend,I and my brother often went to the hill to find some mushrooms,or caught birds,It's so funny.but now my nephew always stay at home sitting front the TV when he came back from school.and my brother is so busy to take him outside,so just let the son watch TV or play game and reading some story books,he know much from the TV and books then we ever knew as the same ages, but I think it's a pity that he can't outside to enjoy the gift what the nature given.
