How could someone be so cruel?

United States

A few months ago, my mom brought home a chihuahua (I named her Peanut). She hear something whining inside a cardboard box; the lid was taped shut and inside was the chihuahua. How can someone be so cruel as to leaving an animal inside a taped box? Peanut's barely a year old and she's so tiny, therefore, defenseless. She's so sweet and seems to be terrified of everything. People are ridiculous these days. I have no sympathy whatsoever for people who abuse animals and neglect them. I think people charged with animal cruelty should have harsher punishments.

It sounds like Peanut got a good home! I can't imagine how people can be cruel enough to do the things you see on shows about animal neglect and cruelty. Some people shouldn't have pets. The sad thing is some of these people have kids! I'm glad that Peanut has a safe loving environment now. Namaste-Anora

I completely agree with you. How awful! Thank goodness your mom was able to save poor sweet peanut. hopefully with time she will come to realize that she is in a good loving home and won't be so afraid anymore. My dog was also an abused rescued animal. She was terrified of everything, but with time and a lot of love she came around, although there are still some things that trigger terror in her, like shouting or seeing a broom.

Hi Cutiepie, I agree with you, totally. I am a lot older than you and in my years of living, I have seen people become more selfish, controlling and cruel. Animals are perfect targets for mean people. They can't tell on them, or even voice to their owners that the way they are being treated is inhuman. Don't worry though, someone upstairs is watching everything, good and bad. Those people will pay for their behavior.

Dogs, or I would rather say animals have lives too. Simply can't understand, how can a person be so hard-hearted as to seal a life in a box. Let's say nobody notice it earlier, how long can they survive without oxygen, without food and drinks. And yes, I agree with you. These animals abusers / cruelty towards animals should get harsher punishments. Still can't figure out these cruel people's doings.

My sister worked as an animal cop for a few years and she had to stop because she saw so much it really started to get to her. I think anyone who harms an animal should be banned from having any for the rest of their life. I used to work at a pet store and one day a lady brought in a tiny puppy. She said she found him on the side of the road in a box with 6 other puppies who hadn't survivied because someone actually hit the box and kept driving. She bought all sorts of stuff for him and took him home. In his eyes i bet she was an angel come to save him.

It is cruel yes, but in most cases it is human nature for humans/people; to feel good pick on the smaller ones as in those that are helpless ageist them. For what it is worth I am sorry that people are like this.

Two of my current cats had similar horrible things happen to them. Our little calico, Paisley, was thrown into a dumpster with 2 smaller kittens. She was only 4 months old, and the kittens were not hers, but she tried to nurse them anyway. Thank goodness someone rescued her and she came to be here. Our beige tabby Peaches was abandoned by her supposed people at a vet's office where she remained in a cage for 7 months resulting in a great many behavioral issues. She is welcome here and can be whoever she is. I hate people who abuse animals also.

I agree with you. I don't understand why anyone would want to be cruel toward an animal when they are so willing to give us love, devotion and pleasure.

That is so aweful. I am glad your mom found her. Bless her heart. I can't see how people could do that either. People anymore just don't have much guilt or humanity left in them. I don't understand some people. I have heard of some cases of animal crulty having harsh punishments. I think it depends on the state and situation. I wish people would have stiffer laws where animals are concerned.

This is inhumane, too! If there is a humane society where youall live, the person who did this would be in trouble with the humane society. It should have been reported. I don't have any sympathy for people people who abuse animals, either. If the persone is going to put the dog in a box, they need to make some holes in the box so the dog can breathe.---------

I agree with you, they do need harsher punishments. People see them as just "things" and not living creatures. We rescued an abused pitbull and it use to make me so upset when she would get scared of the tiniest things or noises. She was abused and then left with no food or water so in the beginning she would eat so fast, afraid that someone would take her food away. When we would try to pet her she would cower away thinking she was going to get hit. It took patience and a lot of time but today she is a lot better.
