Hello. What do you know about 'EarthHour'? It is happening tomorrow night - all over the globe.. On our shores - One TV Station and Two Radio Stations are going OFF-AIR during the stipulated time.. some hotspots in the big cities are planning events thru' out the evening to get people out of their homes - to switch their lights (at home)- and enjoy the outdoors without lights.. I havent signed up officially - but i think i will be switching off the lights at my home tomorrow evening.. help do something for the environment and Vote Earth!! Will you do the same?.. * to save electricity should not be 'an event' - it should a way of life.. something to also teach your children to do.. but all the same i think this is a great to teach the children as well.. to show them that it is a 'global problem'.. and people all over the globe are very much concern about this beautiful earth. Want to know about it? - please visit the below link: http://www.earthhour.org/home/

Some cities in my country join this project, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and so on. However, my city doesn't join it. Frankly, I will not join this project as at that time it's the family time. My child may not be happy if it's completely dark at home, especially it's not his bed time yet. I like to save the energy in usual. If it's OK to use fan, then I won't use air-conditioner. If I have to use air-conditioner, then I will set the right temperature rather than low temperature. I even go to work and go home on foot:) I have many good examples to save energy. I love China

You are correct, there are lots of ways to save energy besides turning off the lights. The sight of all the darkness is impressive, though.

for me, I'm usually out during that time so I think that would count as me participating. But I do not understand why we have to do it. Yes they say it helps our globe.... but how? how does saving electricity save our planet? this i do not understand

I have always taught my kids and other family members to reduce the usage of electricity as much as possible. I agree, it should not have to be an event. On the other hand, if it gains attention it is probably a good idea.

i think so too.. we always teach our children not to waste electricity, water, whatever.. but with something like this - earth-hour - the children somehow sees the importance to the whole globe - that it is something that others all over the globe is doing, and not something unimportant that mommy and daddy nag about at home..

I support any movement to save the earth but zaving the earth should be an ongoing action instead of limited to certain times of the year. For example those living in tropical areas can cut down on the use of fans or air conditioners. It takes some self-control but the human body can adapt to many conditions if given enough time to do so. As for the lights we can train ourselves to look for something in semi-darkness instead of having every single lamp switched on. I have been trying to teach my kids on conservation practices but my stubborn spouse does not give much support. It is a fairly uphill battle but several of my kids hae got the message. all the best, rosdimy

i try not to switch the aircond as much also.. when i am driving alone i usually roll down the windows.. but the smelly fumes from the bus and other vehicles could be suffocating, dont you agree?

Whenever I drive I prefer having the windows rolled up. The fumes from buses and lorries can affect our health, so I try avoiding inhaling much of it. Another factor is open windows makes the car less streamlined. This increases the drag and fuel consumption will increase.

I'm definitely turning my lights off tonight! You often think that your one person, you really can't make such a difference. 1 million people think that, that is a difference that could have been made! Lets all turn our electricity off for earth hour!

From two days ago, my tv broadcaster oftenly persuade the the viewers to join this event. And my country represent Jakarta as the capital city to participate in saving the earth. Most people in that city will turn off their light for one hours start from 8:30 to 9:30pm and I will try my best to be participate in this event. Although is hard for me to do it, but I will persuade my family to turn off all the light and using candle for the lightning. Thank's for the share. Keep post happy myLotting...
