Skipping Tournaments: A Wise Decision?

Hi there. I haven't been up-to-date with what has been happening on the ATP Tour, haven't really watched a full-blown tennis match since the Australian Open final, but I actually had time to check out tennis news yesterday and learned that Roger Federer has begun skipping tournaments and now, there's even a rumor that he won't be participating in this year's French Open(?). I, frankly, am quite disappointed. I'm a huge Nadal fan but I'm a greater fan of the Federer-Nadal rivalry. I wouldn't think I'd be such a fan of Nadal if I haven't watched him play and eventually conquer such an amazing player in Roger Federer. Now that Roger has begun skipping tournaments, there's a smaller chance of having classic Federer-Nadal finals or any matches between these two at all. However, I understand that it may be Federer's strategy to focus more on tournaments that mean more to him and train and prepare for them. However, I can't help but miss those days when these two would face out in almost every tournament.
Any thoughts, fellow tennis fans?
