Finding a good groomer

It's difficult to find a good groomer but luckily I've found a way to find a good one. I started by calling and asking some groomers about the services that they offer and what they charge, when they're open and how I schedule a time for my pet. When I found a few that I liked I stopped by to look at the shop and see the staff working with the animals. This also gives me a chance to ask the groomers about their experience. When I find a groomer I take my pet there and stay for a bit. This allows me to fill out paperwork and make sure that my pet is comfortable. Now that I'm going to need to find a new groomer since I'm moving, does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

Thats a good idea. I usually just take my dog to my dad to have her shaved. The other two i do myself. The nearest groomer is about 2 hours drive away - not very cost effective. I've been trying to find some classes to take so i can do better doing it myself.

I never thought of doing it myself. What kind of clippers do you use?

I purchased a set of Oster 2 speed clippers. I went to a farm supply store and bought the dog grooming kit one time. I've seen them at pet stores too. I do prefer my dad's varible speed clippers to just the two speeds through. My dad uses calf clippers on the larger dogs. We send our blades away to be sharpened once a year or my dad sharpens them.

I used to live in a different area and I took my dog Secret to a groomer and left him there whilst I enjoyed shopping in the coastal town. Then four years ago I moved and then the next year I bought my second dog, Magic. I had trouble getting them groomed because demand was high. They hated going the groomers and I tried two different ones. Then my friend suggested a mobile groomer and she comes to my house. She charges less than a groomer at a shop and she does an excellent job. She talks kindly to my dogs and makes them feel at ease. I have to convenience of staying at home and don't have any bus or train fares to get to the groomers. I suggest you look in your local paper and see if a groomer does home visits. Good luck.
