as bad as i feel i think i will need to get better to die 3 yrs ago, i had H-pylori. its a deathly stomache disease. no one seems to know how you get it. not catching they say but it could poison your sytem and kill you. i had to take 2 kinds of antiboitics for 14 days. on the 5th day, i broke out in hives! allergic reaction. the allergy was worse than the H-pylori pain. well the next yr. i had it again. only one antibiotic this time. but obviuosly it didnt go away. because just last week the dr. told me i have it again 2 kinds antibiotics again for 14 days, onl;y i just got through 4 days and broke out in hives all over and swelled beyond recognition. yesterday it started. the dr. said to quit the meds and take Benedril. didnt help. this morn the swelling was even in my feet. i could hardly walk. at emergency room they gave me a shot and meds. its just now a little better. i knew i had a lot of people here to reply to. so here iam explaining why i havent. anyone here ever had H-pylori?

OH Bunnybon I know all about H Pylori (or helicobacter Pylori) I have had this condition for at least 4 years. Here the treatment is triple treatment , 2 antibiotics and another medication for 10 days and this is usually effective. I have had this treatment 3 times and it has never worked for me although it has made me as sick as a dog the whole time I was on it - although never an allergic reaction thankfully. I hate that breath test they do to check if you still have it or not - is that how they check there? Blood test first time but after that they can't use blood test as once it has been in your blood it will always show up there apparently!
My Dr has decided to keep me on long term medication which stops me from producing acid which causes a lot of the problems H Pylori gives you and it does help. Did you know that if left untreated it can lead to stomach ulcers etc? I do hope that you feel better soon as i know how awful H Pylori is and I know how vile bad allergic reactions are as my son and daughter have both suffered from them before!
Hugs xxx

I was diagnosed with H.Pylori a couple of years ago, but my GP played it down. At the time, I was suffering dreadful stomach cramps, acidity, nausea and fainting fits. He was more concerned I'd end up with ulcers - H.Pylori can cause them apparently.
I took the antibiotics but still have flair-ups. It triggers my IBS and it's a pretty miserable existence, I agree. I'm sorry you feel so awful - perhaps alt. medicine would work better? My daughter got me on some capsules that replace the natural gut flora and mimic antibiotics without causing side-effects. They were much better for me - the trouble with antibiotics is, they kill EVERYTHING in the gut, good and bad (and H. Pylori are getting resistant to most ABs anyway)

It's quite well known - Acidophilus, like you get in live yogurt. They're in capsule form (1000 mg)which means the proteins don't get denatured by the stomach acid. They have added pectin which is supposed to make the 'good' chemicals stick to the walls of 'bad' bacteria and attack them.
A lot of people buy them in preference to the antibiotics doctors prescribe as they don't harm the useful gut flora and, indeed, encourage its growth. So long as you have a healthy level of natural flora, the H. Pylori can't flourish.
Try not to get too stressed out, as H.Pylori go into overdrive if you are anxious about anything. Unfortunately, our natural bacteria are good, but very fragile - too much stomach acid can kill them off. H.Pylori on the other hand, are tough little blighters. But they CAN be beaten!

to be fair many people are infected with the H pylori bacteria but we don't yet understand why some go on to have problems with it and some don't. i agree it is a problem though as it leads to ulcers and can lead to stomach cancer if untreated. i was listening to NPR last night and a Japanese doctor ( for some reason presumably dietary, japan has high rates of h pylori problems) has found a way of treating it with yoghurt. you can find more about that at http://www.jivamedia.com/askdrdawn/askdrdawn.php.

I haven't heard of this before. Is it something that is a regional disease or what? I am sorry that you are so sick and I hope that they can find some way to make you feel better. Have you looked up the disease online and seen what the cures for it are or the treatments? I have done that a lot since I found out that my daughter had Lyme Disease. It is amazing things that I have told the doctor.

Oh dear, how terrible! I have never heard of H-pylori. Aren't there any safe natural remedies for it that won't give you any side effects? I hope you get better soon.
Cheers and happy Mylotting

I am sorry to hear that. It's pretty scary. I don't know about that and it's my first time to hear such thing. How did you get it? Is it genetic?

it looks like it could be genetic from what a previous response said. they sent a link for it.

I'm so sorry you are going through that...even once sounds like more that enough to me. I hope you respond quickly to the medications. I'd never heard of H-pylori, so I looked it up in wikipedea. Here is the article I found, most of it went right over my head. Under the treatment options, there looks like options that you might want to discuss with your doctor. Here is the link to the article:

Good luck Bunny!

Hi bunnybon , as i know about this awfull helicobacter because i also suffered with it , it caused me ulcers , but i was cured succesfully, h, pylori is a germ that they found that actually causes ulcers , i also had to take antibiotics for 15 days but did not have any allergic symptoms , after the this i also had to change my diet to a more vegeterian lifestyle , no cola , coffee tea fried foods butter less refined foods just plain good healthy natural foods , and i can tell you that is now over 9 years ago , and never ever had this problem again, i personaly think that it comes from the meat intake we consume , please try a healthy diet , hope you get well soon , best of wishes bignik

WOW!!! I have never even heard of this before. What causes it?? Is it hereditary??? This is very strange.
