they use this thing called a papoose or limb restraints and wont allow the parents to go back there as this is going on.. they also have said they need to do dental work so they can bill medicaid when its not needed and said they did work they didnt.. i watched a thing on a news show and they said kids would come out bloody and all traumatized (for good reason) after it and too scared to ever go to the dentist again!!
if i knew that was what they were doing there would be no way in hell i would let my kid near them!! how horrible!! i remember that i went to one orthodontist that wanted to pull 4 teeth and he did poor kids and i fell out when it was time and my mom was like "NO WAY" and took me to a new place and i didnt need ANY teeth taken out!

I don't care how cute or sugarcoated they make it sound..putting a Kid in RESTRAINTS? They should be kicked out of the dental association on their a$$ onto the street in a shower of their license confetti..Talk about traumatising the Kid into NEVER wanting to see a Dentist ever again...

Oh God! could not even imagine some dentist doing that to my kid, she has teh gift of understanding and adjusting her situations accordignly, so i dont think it would be much of a problem to control her for she is capable of tolerating pains, but her only demand would be that i must stay next to her and hold her, which i will defntly make sure i get to do and only then proceed

That is horrible...to do that to some many kids because its cost efficient. Please. Its abuse. I know of a local dentist practice that removed all the teeth out of a handicapped persons mouth without the moms consent...and for no freaking reason!!! There was nothing wrong with her teeth, but because of her mental state, they removed all her teeth so not to have do deal with her again.
It cases like my brother, restraints and complete sedation is needed...but not on kids that are just plain scared...also my mom was always allowed to stay with my bro til the sedation took effect..and if the dentist had a problem with it we went some where else. So many are in it for the money and not for the care people they are treating. Case in point, my bros unneeded partial. They could of fixed his teeth, but decided to remove them and put in a permanent partial.
The poor and handicapped are being brushed off because they all are on government assisted insurance. Its bs and it ticks me off.

What really ticks me off is the docs seem to think this kind of behavior is acceptable.

poor kids. that is really very scary to be in their hands. it seems there are some people who will just do any thing just to get some money even if they are in a respected job. they should be ashamed they are even called a dentist. cause they are nothing but just plain thief who would just like get benefits for what they are doing and to charge more i guess.

I think its pretty bad cos going to a dentist was about the most scariest thing I ever did as a child and I certainly wouldnt have liked being restrained.

Hi, mooonlitmagikchild. No. I would not take my kids to any kind of dentist that would tie them up. That is mean and degrading. What kind of dentist operates so crazy?? I am very sorry to hear about what happened to the other children. As a parent, this dentist would get sued by me without a doubt.

You're absolutely right, the child will be traumatized for life and will probably lose many teeth during their lifetime because they're afraid to go to a dentist. There are occasions in an ER to use a papoose board during an emergency, but not in a dentist's office. Quite a few dentists use either hypnosis or a knockout pill for patients who are leery of having oral surgery. Both would work well on a child and not traumatize them.

There are a couple of dentists just north of you in Louisville that use hypnosis and I seem to remember (it's been almost 20 years) that there was one in Murphreesboro.

Yes way! That is so random of the dentist. I would even have myself tied up * naughty smile *
I love it. I haven't heard of this kind of dentist since the medieval times.
Also, I hope you can smell my sarcasm. Hee.

GEEEhh!!! What kind of practice are they doing? They must reported at once to the Dental Association. I, myself would not do that especially on kids. Unfortunately, I'm an undergrad of Dentistry. We handle our patients with care so that they wouldn't be traumatize especially kids cases. There is a proper way to handle kids on a chair so that they will come back and don't hate to go to a Dentist. I wouldn't let that dentist hurt my child or else I'll probably report that at once. The only reason why we come to a dentist is to fix our teeth not to traumatize us. The trend now is to restore our teeth and not to pull them out. *wink*

do you think it will be hard to be a dentist since everyone is always scared of them? i mean of course you wouldnt do anything to make that fear but it would seem odd to be in a profession that people were scared to go to..

I can't believe this is going on! That is so horrible. I can't imagine being tied down and having the dentist working on me. If i caought a dentist doing that to any kid I wouldn't let it go on. And the dentist wouldn't be to happy with me either when i was done.

Not a chance!! There are far too many whackjobs out there. I wouldn't send my kid to that kind of dentist. And what's the freaking deal with the parents not being allowed in there when the kids are in there? That's even more wrong! If that doesn't automatically make people suspicious, nothing will!!

You know, If you go through my discussions about almost a year ago. I made a post about taking kenzel to the dentist and what they had said...scary because its everything u just said... I took kenzel to the dentist and i was refferd out because she had a cavity that needed fixed...When I got there this papoose thing is exsactly what they wanted to do to her. But they also wanted to put her on valume.... well I ended up not doing it in fear that it would traumatize her in this way... she loves to go to the dentist and that is the way that i wanna keep it...Now for the other part. kenzel had a follow up at her normal dentist and she was going over her charts and kenzel only has 2 cavitys opposed to the 7 they said she had..wtf!!....
Im ganna go read this link.....

That first of all does not sound very professional at all. I can not imagine any parent in their right mind that would something like that but it can be very distressing not just for the kid but also for the parent too. I don't think it would be positive thing and it would make the child hate going to the doctor. That is something that should be warned about, what I mean is people should tell each other if something so bad happens. Cool avatar.

Hi moonlitmagikchild.
No way I'm gonna take my child to a dental clinic with that kind of reputation. I always accompany my daughter whenever she needs to go to the dentist and I make sure that I am beside her during the entire procedure.
I pity those kids who had been through this horrible experience. Those dentists should be sued and not be allowed to practice their profession.
Thanks. Have a great weekend!

Wow, this is a horrible story. I cannot imagine such a place. I do not think that I would feel comfortable with any place that would not allow you to be in the room with your children. I would be very scared as to the treatment of the kids. I also cannot imagine that this dentist would be allowed to stay open after the reports of kids leaving the office in such a condition. I have a problem with dentists and I did not have an experience like this when I was young. I cannot imagine what kind of problems these kids will grow up having. Hopefully, this place will be shut down so no more children will have to suffer.

i would never take my children to a place that does not allow the parents to go back with their child, people are crazy theses days you never know what is going to go on behind closed doors.my children are 15 and 16 years old and i still go in to the back of the dentist office with them.medicaid should screen theses drs more and not allow them to work on anyone.theses dentist should not be allowed to practice on anyone at all,if i was the parent of one of those kids i would be finding a good lawyer so i could sue them.those poor kids are going to have a lot of emotional problems
