In my home province town fiestas are mostly celebrated in April or May. It's the time of year, more than during Christmas season, when we visit our hometown. Even those who already reside in other countries, cities or provinces save up for this annual trip. It is a time for us to reconnect to our roots. The main reason I go is that I am able to visit and see much more of my relatives, friends and townmates during this time because almost everyone I want to see is there. This is also the time of the year when the houses, streets, church, etc look their best. There are different activities to entertain to break the monotony of a very laid back, simple life of a small town like ours.
Do you like to attend town fiestas?

hello,
Celebrations of Fiestas in the province is really extravagant! But in Manila, there are also places who celebrate Fiesta extravagantly. Like in our place, fiesta is in January in memory of Sto. Nino. People go here just to celebrate.
take care

Residents here in our parish are from different parts of the country. Fiesta celebration here is only church activites (novena, mass, procession). Instead of each home preparing food for guests (its not usual to have fiesta guests anyway)parishioners, through the different street communities or religious organizations contribute food for community meal (salo-salong bayan) held at the parish grounds.
I have not experienced fiesta celebration like the Tondo Sto. NiƱo where I am told is like what we have in the province. Thanks for your comment!

In my opinion, the town festivals all around the country make the Philippines a much more happier place than any other country in the world. Some countries only have national festivals like the Mardi Gras or other such once-a-year country-wide events. Here, it's different. If you have all the time in the world, you can probably go around the Philippines and visit every place only to know that they're celebrating a "fiesta" of some sorts.
On a more personal note, I always attend the fiesta in Brgy. Cultihan, Taal, Batangas. It's celebrated every 25th and 26th of May. I want to invite everyone in myLot to go there if ever you have the chance. The people are really friendly and best of all, they will offer free food! Come and join us, alright? :)

I always like fiesta celebration in the home province coz of the food, activities (singing, dancing) and fun. It is also a time or chance to meet again relatives, former classmates and friends that I have not seen for quite sometime. We are already living in the city coz of work, but whenever I have the chance to go home to attend fiesta, I really go to our hometown.

There was a longtime before that I could not go home to our provice to attend the fiesta when my kids were then studyinga and money was scarce. Going home to our provice (far from our present residence) entails a sizable expense. Now that we don't have students anymore I am able to attend our town fiestas almost yearly already. Me and my high school classmates always make it a point to meet whenever I'm there. Thanks for your response

Yes, fiesta in the provinces brings family and friends together. It is also a chance for the municipality to do exhibits showcasing their best products and cultural presentations to reminisce the old traditions. Some also organize sports competitions which draw out youths participation.
But in some ways, fiestas have detrimental effects to some of our kababayans. I know some people who will go to the extreme of getting loans just to have something for the visitors. Others will be concentrating on the preparation for the celebration that they will sacrifice their works in the fields. It is also being used as an excuse to have different types of gambling in the community. I have read somewhere before that if we will add all the extravagant spending for fiestas from the whole country, we might be able to deflate our national external debts considerably.

Fiesta is a time of residents to show their best: best menu, best curtains and linens, best utensils, best practices. Maybe people just want to break the monotony of their real harsh circumstances so even if it means being in debt for the rest of the year he/she would still celebrate.
Maybe it's true regarding the extravagant spending which could pay off our debts, but could one put a price to one's happiness?
Thanks for posting

Hi pmcepe, good day to you. . . Well, here in our country here in the Philippines in every Province/City there is a corresponding Fiesta and in there corresponding fiesta. I am surely that in every fiesta, many people are happy because this is one of the time were you can get together with your relatives and you can eat many foods with that occasion. Well me when i am invited in in a fiesta, i always accept it because it is a great opportunity. And by the way when there is also a fiesta here in our country we also invite our friends from the Philippines.
We all know that Filipino love celebration because at the beginning in the middle age, most of the old Filipino always celebrate especially when they able to hunt a big boar or any kinds of animals. In this cases it only means that in our bloodline or legacy we have a emotion or feeling that loves a occasional celebration. By the way i forgot to tell that if we have a big amount of money and we think that many people will visit our place, we prepare many kinds of foods and dishes. Hmmp, when the topic is about food, honestly speaking i really feel hungry, like at this time. By the way i am just wondering? If in other place or country, there celebrate a fiesta or any city occasion? Well that's all my response regarding your forum topic discussion entitled "Fiesta". Happy posting to us and happy earning! Good luck to our earning career heqe in this site mylot.
