Have you ever been laid off?

Have you ever been laid off? I realize the economy is brutal right now, but being laid off was probably the worst thing I've experienced in my life thus far. I got laid off a week before Christmas from the coolest job I've ever held: an engineer at the worlds largest manufacturer of earth moving machines. The first few weeks were okay because we were supposed to have Christmas shut-down anyway. But the longer I am without that job, the more lost I feel.
Have any of you ever been laid off? If so, how long did it take for the economy to turn around? Did they call you back? If they called you back, did you go back or did they make you too angry that you didn't go back? I have so many questions and am curious to see how people dealt (or are dealing) with being laid off.
Thanks!

When I was 18 years old I returned from my travels in Europe to job as a container marketing controller for a ship brokers. I sorted bookings for cargo that was going to the Far East. There were three other people in my team, the secretary and the boss. It was the recession that changed the company and I alongside many others was made redundant. It was sad because the year before I had bought a tiny cottage. I tried finding another job but in that economic downturn that proved difficult. I let my home out for one year and got a working holiday visa for Australia. I bought my airline ticket for a trip around the world and off I went. I returned home over one year later and got married then had a baby son. I began studying to become a primary school teacher and four years later I started my career in teaching. I know a guy that was laid off work for two months then the firm invited him back to work because they have a large contract at the moment. The recession might be gone by 2010 or 2011. The last recession was in 1991. Good luck.

It is rather regretfully to hear that .I never have been laid off till now . Mabybe i changed 5-6 jobs in 8 years after graduating at college .I always fired my boss .hahaha .No problem if you were laid off .Please sort out your resume and look for the employ informations and preparing for interview ....Please treat it as a daily works instead of difficult problem or troubles .Take yourself easy and do you best ...You must be able to get the job you like .

I have been laid off three times in my working career. Actually two of the lay offs were from the same job. My current lay off is the worse, because it happened while the economy is weak. I have been laid off since June of last year. I am not dealing with it very good, because financially I am in a bad situation. It is hard to pay my bills, because my unemployment is $900.00 less than I was making a month when I was working. If I had that additional $900.00, I would be okay.

I am laid off too, with no chance of ever being called back to that job. The company shut down, as in closed the doors. It is a scary experience, especially in a small town like this one. I have a 1000 in one chances of getting another job. The economy is terrible and whenever there is a job opening, at least 1,000 people are in line trying to apply for that one job. The county I am in has the highest unemployment rate in the whole state.

I got laid off from my first call center job with just 7 days left before i reach my regularization and just 2 months after my wife gave birth. But aGod is good, because after 7 days I was back on track with my new job, with higher pay, more benefits and the new location just a stones throw from where we live. Truly the Lord knows the perfect timing for everything. I know that there are a lot of people who are feeling the crunch of recession. Don't despair. Pray and you will see how God works.

Yes I have, my job was sent overseas. And lately I lost my job due to the fact I injured my shoulder on my job. I was told since I could no longer do my job that they could not hold my job for me. Where is loyalty any more in the USA??? It use to be companies was loyal & wanted you to work for them forever, but not any more. I have really been depressed about my job but I am still drawing workman's comp. When my job was sent over seas my company that I had worked for sent me to school for 1 1/2 years. But I am waiting to see what will happen about my injured shoulder. I was told they had to give me a pay off, I don't know for sure but that is what I was told.

Everyone in the office where I worked was laid off last October. I was shocked since the company seemed to be doing well the previous year. The company said I could apply for a position at the main office in another state, but I couldn't afford to relocate at the time.
I currently collect unemployment benefits, but I am trying to find work so I won't have to rely on the benefits for too long. (They expire at the end of this October.) I've been applying mainly at bookstores and coffee houses.
