Police Harrassment

Why do police have to harass people for no reason? I was standing in my doorway looking out and 4 police officers were walking through our apartment complex stopping everyone walking through for no reason what so ever other than the fact that they can do that and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It's truly a shame that now people don't trust the police and would rather deal with criminals than the police because they feel safer with the crook than the law. Give me your opinions.

That sounds kind of odd. Perhaps they got a complaint from someone who lives in the complex and they are trying to find the correct apartment number. All they should do is ask if you know where that person lives to help them out. Just tell them if you know, if you don't know the person then say so. No big deal, or perhaps they are patrolling the complex as a result of many calls to the complex. I don't know that it is harassing. Just mind your business and let them do their jobs, if you have information they are asking for, tell them. If not, then say so politely. No harm, no foul.

I do thank you for commenting, but its not quite that simple. No, they are not looking for anyone in particular. They are just randomly walking around harassing people. If they see a group of young men standing together talking they go make everyone show id for no reason. And if they were bothering anyone, I could understand but they are standing talking and laughing, having a good time. I do think its harassment when they have no reason other than intimidation because they are the police.

Perhaps they think those young men are gang members and asking for ID could be a part of their ruse to find out if the young men actually live in the complex or not. Perhaps, in your area of the country there is more gang activity, thus the need for increased police presence. In my area, the police pretty much leave you alone unless of course they catch someone being stupid or driving like a maniac or if they think someone is driving under the influence.
