Usage of Cell Phones.

India

Now days Cell have multiple uses like a music player, camera, clock, calculator, and so many other things. Except the clock, I do not think anybody uses these other things. Very few people use the music player and some might use the F.M. radio. How many of us have really used the camera, and has anybody printed, the films, which we have snapped.No. We blindly buy the extra rich featured cell phones because of the marketing hype as well as the articles written in news papers. How many of you agree with me on this.

i agree with you partly.for me ,camera is more important than music player. i use it often. sometimes it's not convenience for me to take a digital camera ,i will use the camera of cellphone to take photos for my son. besides, the clock is so necessary for me. i have not wear a watch for many years,i will always see what time is in my cellphone.

Now days a lot of people do not wear a watch and I agree that the mobile phone is a good substitute. But the pictures we take from our mobiles are not so good as what we get from a digital camera. The pictures might be good if we upload it in our computer, but when we print the same the quality is not so good.

i agree with you, watch tend to be unreliable these days, as everything else. I mean I bought some pipe fitting, and it snapped. And it was metal and it just broke in my hands.

Costliest cellphone ! - It costs $1.3 million !
cellphones are a thing of bashing these days. people buy phones with more advanced features to show off. If your phone has lesser features, or is lesser priced, you are outdated!

Well I am an outdated person, I carry a LG CDMA mobile, which does not have any features apart from talking and sms. As far as the price is concerned, it costs about Rs.1,500 or 30 american dollors.

I have a mobile phone and I use it mainly for text messages and sometimes for calls. I have used it for taking photos to send to friends. I used it as an alarm clock once when I forgot my travel alarm clock on a trip. I have so many more features that I don't use on my mobile phone.

We all use the features which you have mentioned in our mobile phones, and there are so many other features we never use, but pay a hefty price for the mobile, when we buy it. Well that is name of the game, we see the features in a glossy advt. regularly and are tempted to buy it, but never use it. Thanks for responding.

I have the Iphone, and use most of the features on there ie internet, the gps system means I dont need a sat nav system in my car. I also use the phone for the ipod side of it and have over 500 tunes on there for when I chilling or sun-bathing lol, when I get a phone I also make sure its got a decent phone as I have kids and am keen on photography so its handy to have all the features in one place as I rarely use a hand held camera now that I have one on my phone, and yup I print them off and put them into photo albums.

Well benny128, I thought the Iphone, was nothing but hype, but it seems I got it wrong. Nice to note that you are using all the features of the Iphone.

nah the Iphone is am amzing phone especially the 3G one. I have the old version when they first came out. Also yeah I would never buy a phone without the features I have on the Iphone as especially the sat nav and the camera are great and really easy to use. Tho only down point is cant send mms messages.

I work for att and I know most ppl that have the IPHONE only have it becuasne they are cool to have it and complain about how they have to pay 30$ more a month for the internet because they dont use it. That is what the iphone was made for so it is funny that ppl buy a 400$ a phone because it is cool. My phone is an lg vu and love it and use the calender and internet and eamil on it so .

So my argument was right, because of the marketing hype created by Apple, people who do not even use internet have gone in for an expensive phone. But the biggest joke is on the people of India, where Apple has introduced the 3g phones, when the 3g technology was not available, and some celebereties as well as some others used to carry the Apple 3g phones with them. This is what a successful marketing can do.

personally the Iphone is an alternative to a blackberry, I use the Iphone for business and it is an amazing phone if you need it for business, especially if you need connected to the web and have everything at one touch. For the normal person in the street then I agree they bought it prob to show off.

My new Phone - Nokia's first touchscreen phone boasts of a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 3x digital zoom, auto focus and a dual-LED flash. It also has a second backward facing camera. This compares to Apple 3G iPhone's 2 megapixel camera with no video recording option and no flash support.
I used to limit my usage of the cell phone to talking only till I bought my recent Nokia 5800 Music Express touch screen. It is an excellent phone with a great camera and fantastic speakers.Basically it is a music phone.I have started use it as Ipod now.I am just enjoying my music with this phone and hooked to it.

I think, I must also have a look at this phone. Since both of us are from the same city and almost of the same age, maybe I might also be tempted to buy a expensive mobile.

When many people started buying phones with cameraes etc I still kept my old phone, and as long as I was able to make phonecalls and send text messages I didn't care about the rest. Then my old phone broke down and I received a new phone with camera and lots of other features, and now I actually enjoy having a camera in my phone. I also use the videocamera sometimes. The calender, the calculator and the alarm clock are other useful things, so I guess my conclusion is that I do use those also those extra things, even though I used to say that I didn't need them or want them

As you have mentioned, maybe if I get a feature rich phone, I may also use it. But one thing I am not going to buy one costly phone, I am waiting for somebody to gift it to me. He, he.

Hello dear friend, I think I dont agree, I have some very critical usage of calculator, and more than often the calci in my mobile has been handy. At places where my work takes me, I snap, and helps me to build slides at my office. I am very much a music lover and I have a good collection of songs as the cell phone has a memory of 2 gb. I dont listen to the radio but I prefer my colletions. Printing films I have not done yet but the feature is surely there. Ahh.. there is this feature called edit pics, I can distort or enhace a persons face which is fun to do. More or less I think I use a good portion of the mobile handset not to mention the continious tring tring of the handset which is so very annoying at times.

well bodhisatya, nice to hear from you after a long time. I agree that the feature rich mobiles are useful for some people, and some professionals use all the features of the phone. Basically I am talking about the common joe, whom you see everyday in the bus and train, who carry the expensive phones without knowing the uses of the same.

Im not sure I fully agree with you. Im sure lots of us have features we dont use but there are some that use most of them. I have a very basic phone as I dont know how to use all the other features and could care less. I dont go on the internet or even text message anyone..I barely even use the phone. I do have to say in all honesty that I have used the camera a lot. I love to always have a camera with me and i used to carry my much bigger digital but now dont have to. And yes, I do download the pics I take with my phone. THat is one feature I would not want to be without

Hi Rameshkumaar57,, I agree to with you, but not fully. i am using Nokia 5320 Xpress Music.and LG mobail with out camera, music system, and FM Radio.but the features are well and good, after five months i am using Nokia 5320 cell is very good and useful features. In last month my company staff went to out side. in that time any one hadn't camera. we took all snaps with my Nokia 5320 cell. all snaps are very good quality. after came back uploaded to my loptop, and sent to my boss, my boss give the appercetion. According to my view of camera cell is very usefull if we can use wright way, and best usefull thing is we do not need to carry a separate camera when we go out some where with family or colleagues

I agree with you venkatpeddireddi, as long as you are going to upload the photos in your laptop or our own computer, the picture quality is good, but when you print the photos in a studio, the quality is not so good. Thanks for the response.

I have a friend who has Macular Degeneration who uses the clock on his cellphone always. He got a phone just because it had big numbers for the time. He cannot see his watch anymore and relys on his phone for the time. It is great. We don't have to tell him the time anymore! The phone can do all kinds of things but all he does is call folks and find out what time it is. Shalom~Adoniah

Adoniah, this is really wonderful. If the technology is going to help sick and disabled people, I am ready to pay anything for it. It is really nice to hear that your sick friend, has got a very good use for his mobile. It is only when we read letters like this, we feel what mordern technology can help all of us.

I use my cell phone for a very wide use. I usually tend to forget my appointments, the things I plan and stuff like that. I use my cell phone to store every bit of it in the calender. I like taking photos of my gf everytime I see her happy or eating chocolates or when we laugh together. But at the end of the day, The biggest purpose of my cell phone is for calling and texting my friends. But its not the case that I do not use the other features of my cell phone. Happy mylotting buddy....

I use my cell phone for an alarm clock to take pictures and make calls. I also text with my cell too. Oh also I write on my notepad on my cell if I want to look something up or if I want to remember a name or something like that. I think cell phones are a great thing to have but I also think they cost way to much and the plans are too much too. Take care happy mylotting

Yes momtrying2makeit, that is what I am emphasising, all these extra features, cost us more money, but we may not use it as frequently as we wish. Thanks for responding to my discussion.

hello friend, I agree to you to an extent, but not fully. I purchased a Nokia N73 and I used most of its features, before I spoiled it by dropping it in water. I used its camera a lot and I have got all the pics in my laptop. True, I do not take the print but it is a good way to take instantaneous pictures and keep them with you in the system and they provide me very good memory of the time I have spent with my friends in the past. The best thing is that you do not need to carry a separate camera when you go out somewhere.
• India
29 Mar 09
Shekhar that is what I am trying to tell all of you, the Nokia N73 would have costed you at least a minimum of Rs.10,000. Because of the hype created by Nokia, you have purchased this costly mobile, otherwise, you would have gone in for another mobile, made by Nokia, which has got the same camera and you have paid half the money for that mobile. Thanks for the response.
