This life isn't as important as the life to come?

I've noticed that a lot of people who believe in life after death seem to believe that this part of their existence isn't that important.. at least not as important as the phases of existence to come. Some say we won't even remember the experiences of this life, or that we won't know each other in the life to come. Others spend this life in an almost miserable state because they think that happiness in this life doesn't matter, as long as they are happy in the life to come. I think the saddest of all is the idea that we won't know each other in the life to come. That somehow the love and friendships we develop here cease upon death. I look forward to wonderful things in the "afterlife", but that doesn't mean I shouldn't enjoy the wonders of this part of my existance. I think that what we do here does have an impact on whatever happens next, because no matter what, we are always ourselves. We cant' take anything physical with us, but if our consciousness goes on, all the things we are conscious of must go on also.

we need to be concious of our actions as it is those which define where we spend the next life (or if we live at all). I do not think that we should make ourselves miserable in this life hoping that the next life will be better, because we cannot prove 100% there is a greater existance, another life, Heaven/Hell... whatever you believe in. If there is a next life in the Abrahamic sense, then surely this life is, A) a test B) a chance to exorcise free will C) a time to build up experiences all of which determin the next life.

I agree. I believe that the love we have for each other, for our family and friends carries over into the next world and increases as we grow spiritually together. We should seek to enjoy our time with our loved ones in this world as well as look forward to enjoying the next world together. I believe we will remember our life in this world as well and that the spiritual qualities aquired in this world such as kindness will come with us into the next world so we should seek to develop great qualities here.

Even if we don't remember it and whatever's after, if anything, is worse or better, doesn't mean now isn't important. Now, I'd think, would have some impact on...well, then. There's so much here to enjoy, so much here to love and experience. I'll never understand why anyone would ever choose to simply try to "wait through" their lives, wanting something that's not for them yet. Now can be so wonderful, if we choose to live rather than exist.

No one knows exactly what happens on the next life. we have each our own belief. Yes that people who believe in the after life will mostly think that life after is more significant than the present life. But for me, our future or next life will also depend on our resent life. ANd so life this day is as important as the next life but my belief is that this life is temporal while the other life is immortal or eternal.

Is there a life to come? I don't know and there is no one alive who does. There is a wealth of myth concerning an afterlife but no definitive answer. Anyone who tells you that they can give you the true answer is either delusional or lieing to you. The one life that we are sure we have is the one we are currently living. It should be lived to its fullest. If you live by the principal of do no harm any afterlife there may be will take care of itself.

I'm not sure what I believe about our life to come, but I do believe that what we do now while we're living does matter. Even if it doesn't affect our possible future lives, or whether we go to heaven or hell, etc. I do believe that now does matter. If it didn't matter, then why are we even here?

Everything has significance. We are gleaning knowledge that we will need in the future. I believe that we will remember what happened in this life. Other faiths have to believe this also or else how can they believe in eternal punishment? How can you be punished for something for which you have no memory? Stupid! This life is only as miserable as one makes it. I have seen even the most poor happy with their lives. It is how you look at life. It is how you make the most of what you have. You do not have to be miserable. I do believe that there is something very interesting yet to come. I believe that the knowledge we accumulate now will only grow even more in the "next phase of our existence"! Shalom~Adoniah

Yes, what we do matters. We must learn to live in the "now" and be in the present moment. Namaste-Anora
