I have to say that I did..I sat in the hour in the dark actually most of the night...OK..I was still on my computer but everything else was off.
But what I have been wondering is...If it saves so much energy just by one hour a year, then why cant we do it every month and get a reduction in our power bill!!!!...We would have saved a ton of energy that way if their statistics are right!

While I believe in helping the Earth and finding new technology to eliminate pollution, I don't believe global warming was caused by humans. Have you noticed all our products are labeled 'green' or something of that nature now? They just relabeled the same products with an environmental friendly stamp. This is all a ploy so consumers pay more for the same products. They will eventually, if not already doing so, will put taxes on anything that leaves a carbon footprint, and that everything is you and me. The Earth goes through changes and it just so happens that we are in a warming period. The Earth will change again and we will start seeing cooler climates. The politicians have to hurry before this opportunity evaporates. They won't be able to tax us in a few years when the climate goes back to normal.

I did not participate in Earth Hour. I figure that man is too puny a creature to save Earth by merely turning off his lights and being in darkness for an hour (and when I looked outside, I noticed that a few of our neighbors also were of the same mind as I was.) One cannot save the earth by turning off lights. The only way is when Jesus Christ returns in HIS glory. And God has given us the mandate to protect the Earth, and to be stewards. That means to use the Earth's resources, not to let them stay locked up in the ground. Keeping Earth's resources locked up is just as bad as being wasteful. Besides if you participate in Earth hour are you not worshiping the planet rather then God?
Oh we watched Ben Hur.

Actually we cannot save the Earth. We can be responsible and take care of the Earth because God wants us to and not being wasteful is part of being responsible, but we cannot at one hour suddenly turn off all our lights, shut down the power, and then suddenly there will be found millions of tons of fuel, things will grow faster, the cost of oil and gas will go down, and the Earth will be at the exact temperature that will suit everyone.
God is the only one who can save the Earth and the only way HE does it is to save the hearts of men.

I wanted to participate but was too busy doing something. There must be many other people who did not get a chance to participate but we could do it later and should. So everyone who did not switch off lights and electronic equipment , please switch off for one hour some time later. Ideally this practice should continue and be done every week

I didn't know about the earth hour thing but I think that it should be done more often that is for sure. If I know about things like this ahead of time I am always sure to participate in them. I think it is a great idea and should be done on a regular basic especially in these days and times when the economy is in such a slump and needing a boost.

You'd think they would have it more then once a year....maybe would be good to have it once a month atleast. Most people turn everything off when they go to bed for 4-8 hours anyhow which is a big help. But we need to do more. I head that one company made his workers go outside with laptops and work outside so all the electricity could be turned off for awhile to help concerve energy and go a little green..maybe some other companies can follow?

I missed it. I was in bed when the time came because I work nights. I do not think it would ever work around here anyway because my husband has to have the tv going all of the time. Grrrr.

I was still in the streets from my University during the "Earth Hour." I arrived at 9:45 at home. I asked my family if they participated in the "Earth Hour." They negated.
Well, a friend sent me an SMS or a text message that her father argued with her about the "Earth Hour." He said that "no matter how many people participated, as long as they continue consuming electricity more than necessary, it would still be no help. It is the same as attending the church masses. No matter how many times you go to church, if you remain evil, you're still evil.

We did. The problem was that I didn't know about it until 8.27, so didn't have long to find candles, and get prepared. I ended up burning my thumb when I lit a candle, and tripping over a footstool! The amount of electricity we actually saved was negligible, as we only use low-energy bulbs anyway, but I like the idea that lots of people were trying to make a point. It shows that people care about the planet, and want changes made.

I did last year but this year I seriously cannot be bothered as electricity will still be used. Nothing is going to change, if one person does it than obviously nothing is going to change so no I did not participate :)

we all participated in the earth hour, all the lights and using of electricity
was off because there was a brown out for the whole earth hour. This was also good
to save electricity.

My family participated in it too. It was last night here in our timezone, 8:30pm to 9:30pm (GMT+8:00). I felt good as well seeing that a lot of people in the world could come together having one goal, and that is to save energy and to save the earth. I think it's high time all of us realize that this is our only planet, and saving it would mean a lot for the future generations.

Yes, I participated in earth hour. I turned of all lights, televisions and equipment and lit candles. I think that it's just a symbolic measure used to help increase awareness. Do you really think that shutting down electrical use for one hour a year will put a dent in the problem. The measure takes place on a Saturday evening between 8:30 and 9:30 during the spring. There's no need to worry about heating or cooling and everyone goes back to business as usual when the hour is up.
I continually attempt to be as efficient as possible and I have been doing this for quite some time already. I strive to reduce waste wherever and whenever I can. Change will come when people realize that being efficient and less wasteful is advantageous to themselves and not just to the environment.
I spent my earth hour engaged in conversation with a family member. I had no trouble with this year's adjustment. Making a small sacrifice for 1 hour a year is easy to do. Implementing real change to your lifestyle requires will and discipline. It may be more difficult to achieve for some than others. The benefits can be enjoyed by everyone.

Yes. We did it last year and will again this time. I have to admit it was a very long hour as we are so spoiled with electronics. But it felt good to participate in a good cause.

Yup me and my house mates participated in earth hour, not only did we switch of the computer, the telly, the lights, the fan, etc we also removed all electrical appliances and anything that was connected to a switch as it manages to save further electricity according to an article. and we passed the time by taking a stroll and ended up at star bucks (where all the lights were offed as well)
