Have You Ever Googled Yourself?

I don't know if it's a scary thing or a helpful thing. Have you ever googled yourself. You know, put your own name in the search box at google.com? You might be surprised where your name pops up. When I googled myself, I'm right on the first and second pages. Even gtargirl is on the first page . . . with MyLot discussions. I better start some good discussions. So scary, helpful or fun? Google yourself and let me know.

I do at least once a year. I found some nots from old lectures that I have about 30 years ago and plenty of Internet board referances. Checking my pen name that I write under, I hold down the first 10 places. I check that often just to make sure that there's no disinformation or anything really personal available.

That's very responsible of you. No one wants disinformation published especially if it's something you wrote or it's about you.

Yes, that is an annoying thing. I'm not quite sure if I want my email exposed on the internet. Ooooh, is that why I get 1000 emails a day! . Um, xboxboy, I have been trying to tell you that we were separated at birth? Oy, no one ever believes the gtargirl.

I have done it but it never pulls up me. It just pulls up other people with my name. Sooo I dont guess that it is scary, but I did my granddad one time and found him on a ancesty chart someone was doing. I thought it was pretty neat.

Must be a lot of people with your name on the internet then. And finding our family tree online is very fun and useful for finding family you didn't even know you had. I love it.

It's only scary if things come up that you can't acount for or that you didn't put online for other people to see. On the other hand, you should be glad you know it by then so you can take (legal) action against it. It's better to know than not to know. However, I think in 99% of the cases it is not scary at all and it might even be some good fun.

Yes I have and it brings up news articles from when I worked for the local newspaper. It also brings up a few things about racing because that is something we are into. It doesn't scare me because I don't post things online that I would be afraid for people to see.

I do it many times and find my name on the screen. I write on Associated Contents and if I put my name along with AC, search results straight away show my page. It feels great to see my name over there.

I think that if it was actually me that showed up it would be fun to do but I always end up with somebody else with my name.

I am not listed under my own name. At least not for the first few pages and I didn't go further than that. Typing in various user names is a different story though.

Hi there! I have tried that a couple of times and I find it fascinating. It's kinda nice to see your name on the internet pages once in a while just as long as it is a positive thing.

Real name: Turns up nothing on me (there's a few relatively famous people with the same name, so they come up instead).
Online name: All but the last entry on page 1 are me.
Online nickname: All me.
That suits me: I exist online with my assumed name, but not with my real one, which would be worrying!!

I never did that before. I have just performed a search about my own name after reading your discussion. To my surprise, my name appears in nearly every results on every pages. Of course, some of the results is actually myself, others are just different persons. It's hard to imagine that there are so many people with the same name in my country.
