I am so happy that finally i bought a brand new laptop yesterday that i am currently using now. I find it a little difficult for its keyboard is not the same with the desktop computer and their are some function that are not the same. May i ask some tips for all laptop user out there on how to use it and take care of it, for some say that laptop is very sensitive and it get easily broken?

Congratulations Margarit! I bought a new laptop myself only a few months ago and I couldn't be happier with it! Apart from being sure to give it a regular wipe down with a soft cloth (especially the keys because once they end up dirty, they can be really difficult to clean on a laptop), the main thing to be wary of is the life of the battery. Always try to let it run down completely before recharging it if you can because this will increase the overall life span of the battery. It's also a good idea not to leave the laptop in sleep mode too often and to completely shut it down regularly as well. Keep it out of direct sunlight too and don't ever press your fingers too hard against the screen.

Most laptop screens are LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), so in generic terms, they're made up of compressed liquid cells. If you press too hard on an LCD screen, then you run the risk of causing these cells to leak and you'll ruin the screen. If you remember those old style digital watches? When we used to break them accidentally, the screen would "run" yes? A similar thing will happen to an LCD screen if too much pressure is put on it. Overheating by direct sunlight can cause ruptures as well.

Thanks for the tips James, i am still learning how to use this laptop carefully, sure i will try clean this very often to avoid difficulty later on. About the battery life span, is it okay to charge it every time i use for i encounter that all things that i make is lost when the battery runs out.

Congratulations!! hehe well, laptops are handy, you can carry it anywhere you like, but also there are some disadvantages... A laptop can't be fixed directly by the user if some hardware fails because all hardwares are inside and are in tacked. Also, you cant upgrade it on your likes, like a destop computer that you can buy a spare memory module, or an extra hard disk...
But still, laptops are easy to handle, just dont drop it on the floor... hehe

yeah that is really true. that is the main disadvantage of laptop over desktop that is why i don't want to buy laptop. i just am happy using with desktop. but i am rick i will buy also laptop cause it is really handy and really stylish and we can bring it anywhere. since i am not a rich person that i will just be happy using my desktop and still get to learn how to repair this one. and the parts of the desk top are much cheaper than in repairing our laptop.

I think laptops are great, but I prefer my desktop. I used my laptop when away from home, but I do find the keys small and often make a lot of typos until I get used to it. Then when I come back home and use the desktop again, I have to get used to that. But I do love the bigger screen. - Derek

Hi derek,
Nothing beats desktop for it is more durable, more comfortable and affordable too, but the disadvantage is you cant bring it anywhere you like for it is too bulky. So i decided to have a laptop for a change , i have desktop at home too. Thanks for the respond.

I love my own laptop. It has over 100 GB memory. I use it and keep it out all the time and have only taken it out of the house once. Laptops are made to take a bit of a beating being carried around and all. I once had mine on a TV table and tipped it backwards onto a hardwood floor. I'm answering your message on it right now. Maybe it's tougher than others (Dell Inspiron 1721) or maybe I got lucky.
I dust it couple times a week and use it at all times of the day and night.

Congrats. You may want to use a pedestal type thing to sit it on so it doesn't over heat. Heat comes out the bottom of the laptops and I have heard they can overheat. I am hoping to get one in the future. But not sure when I will be able to.

wow, congratulations.. I've been planning to buy a new one. I'm just waiting for the budget. hehehe..
i would strongly advise that you keep it in a laptop bag after use. don't just leave wires on the floor and fold it whenever you like. buy stuff (cloth, brush, etc) for cleaning -- intended for laptops only..

Hi the maker,
I use my laptop bag only if i travel and bring my laptop with me , but when i am at home i don't put it on the bag for i constantly use it more than 12 hours. I think i need to buy a extra battery for it doesn't last long enough. thanks for the respond.

Hey, I bought my second laptop last week and am very happy also. Tips? First of all, don't use it in bed, because the base has to be hard. And do not keep open/close/open/close/open/close it all the time, do it naturally. And for the last, take care of the CD Drive, usually they are very fragile and expensive.

Wow, thanks for that tips tepitenio, at least i know now how to take care of it which the user guide book don't have. I will not use the DVD drive very often and i will not watch movie in my laptop in order to last longer. Anyways i have a portable dvd at home i think no need to use laptop in watching movies.

dont spill water or any other liquid on it
do not throw it on the floor
yes , no joking !!
besides that, make sure you do not damage the keyboard keys by pressing them too hard. always keep it connected with the charger (whenever possible), doing this is good for the battery. install antivirus, firewall, spyware, etc

Congratulations :) Well now that you have a laptop you're gonna take your time and get used to it. The keyboard is harder to use than the computer one. Take care of the laptop get yourself a good antivirus.

woohoo, well first of all, thats great - i remember before i got my laptop, i really wanted one because everyone i knew had one and i was annoyed that i didn't too.
laptops don't tend to be too sensitive, from my experiences with them they havn't been anyway, but it really depends on the make of your laptop - if it's a decent one eg Dell, it may last for a fair few years, on the other hand - if it's some cheapo one, it will most probably break in no time whatsoever.
if you keep using your laptop, you will eventually get used to the keyboard - it's really not at all different, it's just a bit flatter and.. i think it sounds nicer when you type on it ( but im just strange like that, haha).. good luck getting used to your laptop, im sure it wont take you long!

I just bought my laptop a month ago. So far so good - no problems with fragility yet. And I've noticed that a LOT of keyboards are so much different on laptops. I would think they'd stick to some sort of uniformity.

yeah, you should learn how to use laptop. i mean it is much smaller. it needs getting used to use those small keyboard. and use those touch pad where we can navigate the arrow. at first i don't like the laptop cause i was so used to in using the desktop i thought that i will never get used to it but after some time i am able to get to enjoy using the laptop over the desktop and when it is time for me to return the laptop i just sorely miss the laptop and i have to learn again to get used to again in the keyboard of my desktop. and so now i am talking about laptop again i just wanted to have a laptop again. but for practicality sake i will just stick with my desktop.

Hi hotsummer,
Well, if you really wanted to have a laptop then go for it, i myself make a plan to save some money so i can buy the thing that i really like to have. Although the money i have on hand is still not enough to buy a new laptop but with the help of my credit card and with my parent financial support, i get what i really wanted.

Lucky you, I've wanted a new laptop for a while now!
Even though I have only had this one for a year, I use them so much that they tend to wear out a lot quicker than maybe other people's do.
But I am trying to make this one do until it actually will no longer turn on, as I don't have the money for a new one with me going to uni in september and needing to buy a car etc.
