I think if one really wants to learn proper English it does not matter if the person takes a course in a foreign country or just study the language in a local institute. There are also a lot of things that can aid us such as reading books, magazines or paperback novels and voice tapes to hear how certain words are pronounced. Practicing writing and speaking English constantly can also make the determined student master the art.
As for careers, incorporating English in the communication is of an advantage since it is a universal language and people tend to unite more and work better together when they understand each other. So having a good command of the English language can be a tool in landing a great career.

Oh, thank you, cass, i am really humbled by what you have just said. Actually what i've shared is my own experience. I learned the basics from school but i learned more from reading paperbacks and Readers's Digest and a lot of my vocabulary came from them. I'm a voracious reader of English novels but i have not finished the one i've laid my hands on some two months ago because i found out that here in myLot i have a great avenue to practice writing. Making friends like you is added bonus! You know what, here in the Philippines i see a lot of Korean students particularly from the university just across my office.

Hi cassandra, no need to send anywhere, you just guide him to learn proper english from the childhood, tell him about the pronounciations, spellings. Then guide to read the english to your language dictionary. Watching movies also gains some knowledge of english. reading comic books.
Dont send your kid to anywhere. you miss him lot in that days.

I have noticed that too especially in our Country, we have a lot of Koreans who are studying there to learn and improve their English..
It's an edge really to learn different languages especially English, it helps us to land a job abroad and some people also plan to start their own business and it helps them to deal with English speaking individual!

No!I don't think like that.People like to study abroad,as it has some reputation and the earnings are huge compared to studying in local country. If it is for good English, then they could learn and speak fluently in any country.there are more courses for it.Cheers!

yes thats my point why they are spending much money in abroad while they can study in there local area, i think its depend to the person if you have a goal and if you really want to learn about it you can do it,but still wondering why almost parents here in my place wanted to send their kids abroad but they don't know if it good or not, after studying abroad many students says they still can't speak at all,

As a language learner I personally think if somebody moves to the country of the language they want to learn and regulary talks with native speakers their language dramatically improves. And if they want to have a career where that language is used a lot it is better to be able to communicate as well as possible as they will be taken more seriously. However, I don't think it is necessary for everybody to learn English, and there is no point spending a lot of money moving abroad unless having perfect English will help you or your career somehow. I think English speakers should make more of an effort to learn other languages also.
