there are so many ads out there on tv and radio for these supposed credit counseling agencies that can consolidate your credit card debt and even get your principle balance and interest down. i know many of them are scams and have heard stories of people losing their money to some of these places. has anyone had any success at all in negotiating with the credit card companies and if so how? i have even had an attorney draw up a letter and they ignored it but i do not have the money to pursue it further. i have called the credit card companies and they will not budge. one stopped sending me statements and i missed a payment because of it and they jacked my interest rate up to 30.99%!!! i transferred the money to a zero percent interest card as an immediate rescue plan but i need help. any good and legitimate advice will be appreciated.

You have to wait at least 4 months before a credit card company will negotiate with you. But you should definetely talk to them before it's been 6 months...otherwise it goes to charge off - which you don't want. Talk to them yourself. Having a lawyer send them a letter first is more likely to piss them off. They are people too and will try to work with you. Lots of people are in the same situation now.
