can you listen to music whilst reading?

Well, some studies say reading comprehension and listening to music go hand and hand. There are some people who can't do work or even read books without music, while there are also some who can't stand the noise. In my case, I can read books or magazines or stuffs like that better when there's music playing in the background. I don't know but I find that I better focus on what I am reading when there is normal music playing. How about you? Can you listen to music whilst reading?? or say.. can you study or read while listening to music??? have a great day!!!

Sometimes, it happens that I do read while listening to music. It doesn't really happen very often, but it does happen, once in a while.

I guess it also depends on what you are listening to as well as with what mood you have for the said occurrences. Thank you dodo19 for responding.

It is a interesting topic. When I was very young, I had to listen to music or radio while reading or doing my homework. I found that could improve the efficiency. But my dad was very angry when he saw that, he asked me to concentrate my attention on reading or doing the homework without listening to music. He thought it would disturb me. Well, in fact he was wrong. But unfortunately I began to try to do work with music at last, and hold this good habit for several years, even I found it strange when I listen to music whilst reading later. Now, my dad won't ask me to do this or do that, and I began to liasten to music again while reading. Well, now I can just read when the music playing is quiet, and the most important is the books should be easy to read. I will no longer be of me once.

I llke to listen to songs and work out Math problems. I enjoy it and it is a kind of relaxing. I am a post graduate in Math. I don't like to listen to music when I am seriously reading something or wants to by heart some lessons. I know about a boy who used to watch TV and study when adds come (A lot of adds are displayed by Indian TV channels). I don't think it will work. What do you say? Anyway, thank you so much for your response to my discussion.

Me too. I also love playing my favorite songs in the background when I am reading either an ebook, a magazine or any other forms of reading materials. It is calming and really a good vehicle for instruction.

No, I cannot concentrate reading if there's music or noise in my surroundings, though i love music and always listen to FM radio, I love my environment to be peaceful and free from noise everytime I read a book or writing my journal and manuscript.

No, I cannot read and listen to music at the same time. Nor can I sleep with the radio on. I get too focused on the music and it distracts me from other things. I love music, and when it is on it has my full attention.

I never thought I would be able to do this, but recently I've started doing it at the gym. I put my ipod on and read so that I don't have to hear everyone talking on their phones or the tv. I am able to block out the music and comprehend what I'm reading.

I can hardly read when listening to muisic.I can not concentrate on what I am reading if there is some noise going around. When I am just reading something for fun,it does not matter. But when it comes to something difficult, well,I can not focus.

Yah. I understand you. Not everyone really can listen to music while they are reading or say studying. They find it distracting.

In my opinion, it is difficult to concentrate on your own major book when you are listening to music or other things. However,if you are reading poems, prose or novels, that is great. So I think if you want to learn, plese turn down your music, if you just want to relax, please turn it on.

Yes i can. That's how i study back in college. I seem to digest more information. The best thing about it, i can seem to recall my notes just by recalling the song. It seems like images of my notes just seem to pop up thus giving me an idea for my answers on quizzes.

yes I can but that if all of "easy listen" music if that really hard music that can make my head really sick... for example I can reading with slow or clasic music... for study that can make me focus and easy for read and the information get flow to my mind with easy and quickly.... listening music is one way to enjoy reading

I can read while listening to music. I prefer it, actually. It's hard for me to read without it. But if there as a tv in the background, I'd go crazy. I can't stand hearing people talk while I'm reading or studying or something of that sort. I don't know why I can deal with one but not that other.

Maybe it depends on the type of noise that you are hearing in the background. Good noise interests you and maybe the reason why you can't stand hearing people talk while you are studying or reading is because you are not interested with what they are talking about or with what you are hearing. The noise that you are hearing greatly affects your mind and doesn't really help in increasing your speed of learning.

I can't read and listen to music at the same time, particularly if I'm studying something for school. If music were on, I usually end up singing along and completely forgetting why I was reading in the first place. lol That, plus the fact that I'm the type of person who has to have absolute silence while reading in order to fully focus on what I'm doing, is why I can't have music on and read simultaneously.

I understand you. There are really some people who can't concentrate with what they are reading or studying when there is music in the background. Music not only affects us in a positive way. Certain music can also affects a person in a negative manner. It is chiefly a matter of opinion.
