My antivirus has a choice to either shut down the page, get rid of the virus, ignore, or quarantine it. I also run the antivirus again after closing the page or site. And after it runs and the virus is done, I do not need to shut the computer down. Oh I have looked in vain for the choice "phone Blackie, Leftie, or Gino and have them look up the hacker who put in the virus and get rid of them permanently." But maybe that will be in the anti virus program latter on.

I agree with this person. If your anti-virus program is any good it stops the virus and gives you options to deal with it. You don't even have to slow down. If your computer is sluggish then a reboot now and again will refresh it. Also it is good to run a complete system checkup at least once a month and defragment. I also like to use the Norton system optimizer although I don't like Norton for anti-virus any more.

Hello checapricorn, I will just quickly close the page or site if a virus is detected. Normally, I will scan my computer. I am not good at computer and so, I think that' s the only stuff I know. The rest, I will just ask my husband to do

I guess it depends, is it bogging down the computer? then yes most likely I'd shut it down. If not then I would just go ahead with what I was doing and just close the tab or browser altogether!

First I check with my anti-virus software and see the virus alert that it posted. Then I'd make sure that I delete it from my system then if it seems serious, I'd restart it to scan the whole machine just to be sure that I don't have a shadow of it left. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I am very lucky in that I haven't had any virus problems with this computer. I have had it detect a couple of possibly harmful files, and possible security risks, but no real virus problems. I've been lucky with my new laptop, and I hope I continue to be lucky with this computer.

If that would ever happen to me... i would immediately close the site... and run a virus scan... i don't restart or shut down since that won't really help get rid of the virus... and the only way is to use an anti virus... and this reminds me that i really need to get a new one for my laptop...

Hi checapricorn, If i get a message with a virus the best thing is not to open it, deleted right away, I've heard that you're suppose to shut down your computer. And when you done at night to shut down your computer as well. This way it's not running and noone will know that you're on line. I close my laptop and this doesn't really shut it down, but put it's to sleep. I know I have to start shutting down my computer. And if you do get amessage with a virus, don't open it, it will eat all your hard drive.

Thanks for that kaleegirl....I was really scared and close right away the page and now, I am hesitant to respond to those who are new here, not to generalize but I am scared that it will happen again!

Hi Che, as far as I remember, only once I encountered such problem in my PC and it automatically was shut down. In future if I face such problem, I'll restart, and if it persists, will shut down and call technician to fix the virus problem. How are you doing? After many days I am able to make some time to login here.

Che, I read your other post about the virus. Did your anti-virus quit working because it should have caught it. Well, I don't know for sure but I would absolutely shut it down after I ran my anti-virus manually. How do they get a virus into mylot? Good luck Che and everyone else that may have been infected. leenie

Obviously it would be ur antivirus software that would notify you, take the necessary action i.e delete or quarantine, and always up date ur antivirus to ensure a virus free pc. I dont see the need to shut down..or is there?

i have avira antivirus so when a virus is detectd upon opening a webpage, it immediately gives me the option to be denied access and stop from getting into the site. when it detects viruses in my files, it gives me the option to quarantine, delete, or clean the file. but once i do finish what i'm doing, i conduct a complete scan of my PC to make sure that everything's fine.

When my anti virus detects the problem, it usually ask me to choose different options like quarantine, delete, ignore. What I usually do is delete it instead of closing the site or placing the virus on quarantine. I usually do it to anything that I encounter whether its online or its from the flash disk inserted on my computer.

Whenever i detected a virus on our computer my first step is to cure it. We got an avast anti-virust software in our pc. An i think it much better than the anti-virus software that we got before.

I leave my computer alone when I am informed of a virus simply because my anti virus does it all for me. I do come off the site that I am on though if I think it has come from that because it stops the risk of it attacking again although most times once a page has been entered then the virus is in.

Hi, checapricorn! I will just close out the page and site that I just opened. I will close it very quick. But, my computer will defeat any virus attacks. I have a program that blocks Trojan viruses. I hate when I stumble upon sites that detects a virus.

I usually shut down the system, then switch it on again and start the virus scan, praying hard that it hasn't infected any part of the system yet!
