Not My Problem If The Equipment Isn't Working.

It's 10 minutes before closing time, and I got hungry, so I decided to walk next door and grab a burger. All I had on me was my credit card (don't get paid till Tuesday), and when I get in there they tell me that their damn credit card machine isn't working. Excuse me, but if it not the responsibility of the establishment to make sure all their machines are working, no matter what? I know there are technical problems, but they need to be dealt with RIGHT AWAY, because if not they will likely lose business, as this place did tonight. What do you think?

I think they should have the old paper way handy for just in case - where credit cards are concerned. I have been in alot of stores & seen them use the old paperwork when their eftpos machines are down. Unfortunately they are only for credit cards not for ATM cards.

I agree if it wasn't working for a week,
but what if it just stopped working, did you even ask them, they may have to call a technician to fix it and have to wait for the guy to come during daytime hours.

I guess those things happen. I mean nothing is perfect, that happened once at the Mickey D.'s in Charlottesville near where I live and they gave me my breakfast for free because they said it was their fault the credit card machine wasnt working. I thought that was really sweet of them to let me have my meal for free.

Cash is king, problem is, they probably don't know how to make change.

I guess it would depend on what happened to the machine. At the carry out down the street their lottery machine went down, actually broke and they didn't have the lottery for 2 weeks because the only company that makes them is in Florida and they are back ordered. Credit card machines are a little different because there are many companies that "make" them. Chances are if it went down on Sunday there would not be a way to get a new one or repair it until tomorrow morning.

that's pretty dumb.they're losing sales.
but to be fair sometimes it's the credit company.
i worked at a place where the machine was constantly offline.

This happens here all the time ,and of course they probably
loose business ,and later on they complain about the recession.

I'm sure it was as much of a pain for the employees working that night as it was an inconveinence to you. I have no doubt that they probably contacted the company that they needed to to get the repair done, but they had no control over how fast it was going to be repaired. Odds are, it was probably repaired the next day. It's unfortunate that you were unable to grab your burger, but, you seem to be taking it a bit personally.

I agree with you very much I had the same problem. It was a few months ago I wanted to stop at burger king on my lunch break and there machine was down also I was so mad because I was hungry.
Yeah so they lost my bussiness that day also. They should find away to get them up and running as soon as they know something is wrong with them.
Other wise there loosing out. Alot of people don't carry cash on them.

oh boy u made my day.
I'm from Romania, you know, and here we have the rule that everything should not work at all and nobody should fix it... So ...
I'm one of the few here that does his work properly and other's work too....
And I say, when everything will be all right, that will mean that something is wrong and we are on the brink of extinction!
But I get ur point...

I think your right but these issues due occur. One time I called in an order for a pizza, never on the phone did they tell me there credit card machine was not working but when I got there and handed them my credit card they told me that there machine is not working and they are only accepting cash... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? They should have said something over the phone.. I had no cash on me.. I had company over for dinner that night so I had to run to the bank and get money but otherwise I would have told them to throw away my order because my card is all I have

You are right. It is the responsibility of the establishment to see that the credit card machine is in tip top condition always. Otherwise they would run at a loss if customers shop in other places. Since many customers prefer using plastic money then cash.

Well..working in a business that occasionally has interac/cc issues...most of the time we have to wait for the company that supplies our machine to ship us a replacement if its broken.
If the banks are down well...we have to wait. We do accept cheques and cash though so we dont leave people stuck with no options at all. We've had it happen where everything at the bank goes down so we cant accept money through debit if the person goes with that bank - nor can they get money out at the bank. We have a dialup connection set as back up incase the highspeed connection goes down.
Honestly though alot of the interac/debit/cc machines you have to wait for things to be shipped if it isnt an easy fix.
