It really depends on the occasion but I would normally give fruits to a person getting well from an illness. I occasionally give fruits as a gift when visiting my relatives especially when a certain fruit such as mango's or rambutan (which is my favourite) come in season. Otherwise, I would just whip up some cookies, muffins or cakes. For really special occasions like birthday's or wedding's I prefer to get something useful like books or gadgets for the newlyweds. Honestly I wouldnt mind receiving fruits as gifts, like you said it benefits my health! Plus fruits are getting expensive around my area...

The economy here is pretty bad, and food is terribly expensive, I would gratefully accept a gift of fruit or any other food.

In my hometown, it is common to give fruits as a gift/parcel to someone. When we go to our family's home or old friends's home, we usually bring fruit as a parcel. So do they, when they drop to my home, they bring fruit too. Sometimes, i prefer fruit than bread or any cookie. It is healthier i think haha
