Have you planned a summer vacation trip anywhere this year? Many people in India, irrespective of the scorching heat can only plan summer vacation trips, because their children would have an extended holiday at that point of time. This starts sometime in April and there is a two month respite for students. There is no special summer vacation for me because there are no schoolgoing children at home.Do share your past experiences and future plans if you can.The pictures here are of scenic waterfalls from "God's own country" KERALA,India.

That is what my son told me.He was there in Cochin, all along [for about a month and half-he used to come back only for the weekends]and he also told me that when he made a trip to these places,on one holiday, the weather was very humid.THat is the disadvantage of coastal areas. Here , too ,of late it is getting very humid.

Hi Kala...yes you are right about the weather.......Its hot and humid most of the time and summer will ne at its peak for the next two months.....The best time to visit here is from september to january.......
Well I am staying right in the heart fo the city, and my city ,trivandrum happens to be the capital of Kerala..........we have roads here and have buses and cars and autos for computing, and dont have to reply on boats in the city(excpet perhaps when it rains when the roads will be flooded........ha..ha....).But you can go for boat riding in the backwaters if you want......

We have made our plans and booked our tickets already. We ate going to stay for a couple of weeks in Kotagiri the hill station. There my brother in law is having a palatial house .It is always a dream place for me.Absolute serenity with virgin forest around.More than my daughter I am looking forward to the day we land there.
You can have a look at the lawn of the bungalow with my daughter.

Hello! Kala!
I have not yet made any plans for summer vacation. Moreover, I went on an excursion trip along with my family few weeks ago to North East. I feel that it is difficult to visit any good place during summer vacation period because for doing that you need lots and lots of planning in advance for booking your tickets and accomodation etc. Moroever, at every tourist place, one finds lots of rush during summer vacation and too much of rush can kill the joy. I normally prefer to go for an excursion trip in the off season, when one can enjoy the trip better. Else, I plan a trip at the end of summer vacation, when everyone starts returning from the tourist place.

HI Deepak! Sorry for the late comment.I too prefer to travel during the off season[earlier we used to make trips to Kodaikanal[from our place in south];the flowers may not be inplenty and in their full bloom but the place would be less crowded.Holidays cannot be enjoyed in conjested places.I am also of a similar opinion.THanks for the particpation.

Kala!
No need to say sorry, your comments are always welcome! I agree with you that it is better to visit any place in the off season to escape the crowd.

Hi Kalav,
We already planned our trip and booked the train tickets too. We will visit our native place in the summer vacation of my son which begins in the middle of May. Actually the summer vacation means a family reunion for us. There is an off for our hectic schedules for one month and would like to spend time with loved ones.
I would like to ask one question to you, you have given the picture of Kerala waterfall, are you from Kerala or it has taken when you visited the place.

No to both questions dear friend.Recently, my son was working on a project in Kerala and he took this photograph.Normally,I love waterfalls, and shallow streams and was fascinated by thIS photograph. In fact, I wanted to upload two more , one wIth the water making its long way through the rocks.I could not do it yesterday.I am from Tamil Nadu, speak Tamil and am staying in MUmbai for the past 3 years. And what is your native place[where you intend visiting and having your family reunion]

It sounds like a beautiful time of year especially in India. The waterfall picture you have posted is absolutely beautiful! I would love to take in something so breath taking in person.
I can't say that I myself have a summer vacation planned. Although I do realize that this is the ideal time of year for folks to start their plans.
I pretty much live a modest life in rural area and my family is struggling to get by. Instead of feeling sorry for myself I figure that I will spend some time out doors and seeing friends.
Enjoying my five year old son during the summer is a treat and it makes things all worth it. Might even go swimming if we get the chance.
As far as leaving my area to enjoy a summer vacation elsewhere I don't think it is going to happen.
I will make the best of it however.
As far as past experiences I have done some traveling through different places in my country of United States. Nevada, DisneyWorld and the like. It is always nice to take a trip by train or plane during the summer and the memories are great.

I have been planning to visit my sister's place this summer. That's a forced trip though. My nieces are adamant this time. They must have me there this summer. Dubai would be very hot I know but the centralised air con would help beating the heat. I am looking forward to meet my family and the three little angels in two months time.
What are your plans?
PS: thanks for sharing the beautiful picture. Loved it!

I dont think I will be taking much of a summer time vacation. I went off to New Mexico in February, so if I take a vacation it will be to see family I'm sure.
I dont think there will be any major trips planned it is just not going to work out for this year. I do like taking vacation though and will probably do something short.

I used to visit family, every year during summer when my son was in school. After he entered college, with his exams and tough schedules ,slowly, it reduced and after that it became a matter of any time convenient for my husband and now it is only during winter for my sake because I cannot travel when the weather is very hot.

I have planned a weekend vacation at the end of April. I am going to Disney and that will be really exciting. I am also thinking about going to a water park as if you go after two it is only 59 dollars to get in and then you can use that pass all year long and i might do that to be able to go back for my boyfriends birthday as he has never been to a water park at Disney. So far just one trip, but I'm sure there will be another one being planned soon.

We plan a summer vacation each summer. I'm sure my family began it that way because us kiddos were out of school in the summer, from June-August. But even now as an adult, I enjoy going on summer vacations! It's a nice time to just get away and explore more of this wonderful earth.

Even iof you don't have school going children, I think you can still plan for it if you longed for it.
I agree the fact that during April and may, there are ample of time for school going kids to enjoy. But going for a vacation (esp for a week or two) all lies in the heart and thought of us.
I work for a corporate and I manage to take a week off and spend my time with my family members some were far from home.
Other reason why people in India prefer vacation during summer is that, there are very few places in India that are cool during the month of April and may. So people prefer going to those places during these seasons.
