My daughter was. She was diagnosed with craniosynostosis at birth (she is now 4 months old). It is when the sutures in the skull fuse together before the birth. She has to have surgery on her head so that her head and brain will grow properly.

I think that might be what my cousin was born with. He has surgery when he was only about 4-6 months old. They cut the entire length of his head cause his soft spots were already closed up. He has a scar that goes all the way around his head, but his hair covers it up mostly. He is 21 and in college now.

sounds just like it. i really hope her hair covers the scars from the cuts she will get. i love her hair the way it is now, and i dont want them to shave it and then it grow out again. im really scared, especially since this is my first child.

The only place you can see the scar on my cousin really is his side burns. Other than that his hair covers it all. I am sure it is scary. Especially when it is your first child.

dont be too much worried about it.in the hands of experienced doctors, the operation will go smoothly and your kid will be fine.(did the doctors ever tell you as to why it happened??

thanks. no, they said they dont know what causes craniosynostosis. there are other symptoms that can occur with craniosynostosis as well, but they have to look into the parents genes to see if the baby has any other things wrong with him'her, but they havent done any genetic testing with us yet. she has her first appointment out here with the new doctors (we just moved to a different state) on thursday, so hopefully i will know more then.
