Im sure as somone who crochets or does any type of craft we all have a "stash" lol ya know that yarn thats on sale that we have to have or we find a steal on ebay for a collection of patterns , and subscribe to crochet mags etc , that being said im at the comp now looking directly at my craft room thinking how blessed I am to have a room just for my crafts :) but I really need to organize it! wich would mainly be all the patterns I have printed out and mags I have got over the yrs so far I have 2 filing cabnets and a bookshelf full but they are not all crochet its a mix of sewing , crochet, knitting, plastic canvas and general crafts , and just the thought of organizing all of that is scaring the daylights out of me ! but I have to since I have my daughters that are wanting to learn these skills as well but there is always a new mag , book or pattern coming out so how do you draw the line ? ~M~

If you have a scanner you could digitize the patterns and articles that you like and eliminate some of the bulk of storing the magazines and then you could donate them to an art program or a thrift store. As far as organizing goes I just bought a bunch of containers to better organize my stuff as I have no real storage (shelves and cabinets).

Well some of them I would be too scared to scan since they are so old , I have most of them in file cabenets ( the mags from the 40's and 50s etc and I have 1 bottom shelf thats full of old workbasket mags ) Im lucky to have some cabinets since the craft room used to be a kitchen so we justgutted everything but the top cabinets and that where I keep my yarn and material . but I have now started putting patterns I find on the net on a flsh drive so the comp dont have to hold them all. ~M~

Those are the ones you should definitely scan! Paper doesn't last forever and that paper is not acid free. You may want to look into special conservatory bags or envelopes for them as well. They need to be protected from moisture and humidity. You'll want to handle them with cotton gloves to protect them from the oils on your skin and once you digitize them you can look at the pages as much as you want without damage to the originals. Also, if you have them stored digitally and something happens to the originals (heaven forbid) you will still have the information.

Well, good luck with that! I'm another one that has patterns and yarn just follow me home! Plastic tubs are great for yarns and if you have as much as I have you can use one container for each color. Shelving is a must and I fill mine very quickly. I keep telling myself I have to stop, but that hasn't happened yet and I love, love, love to sit and gloat over my new purchases and think of all the things I can make....sometime.
