Now when you say about a gift I wasn't sure if you actually mean a present for a birthday or a gift in which how we treat our friendship.
I know that I like to be good to my friends and treat them the way I would like to be treated.
Friendship is very important and you need to stay a good friend in order to keep them. A one sided relationship would not work too well.
I also say to cherish the people in your life especially your friends because they can help you in a hard spot and if you can rely on them that is a very special thing.
Now on the other hand if you want to give your friend a gift or present I would think maybe a gift certificate for a very nice store they like to visit. That way they can buy what they would like.

I truly mean what I say about friendship. It is a very important thing in life and it can be a long lasting partnership as long as it stays cultivated by two people.
There are not many people in life that we can have a long lasting friendship with. I haven't had too many however anything is possible.
Reaching out to others is very important because it shows that we care and that we want to accept people.
Acceptance is key in a lot of people's lives. We all need it.

A friend in need is friend indeed. If you want to give anything to your friend then give him /her the trust in you that if she/he would ever need you, you would be there for your friend, be it a fight with anyone or in need of money or simply needs a shoulder to cry on and when you help your friend it is ok to lecture your friend how he/she goofed up but you would help and no religion or moral values would stop you to help your friend.
