I was chatting with this friend of mine from school the other day talking about life, career, and everything in between. He went on to say that looking back at our days in college, he never expected to be this successful. It turns out he is now a high ranking executive in one of the premiere call centers in the Philippines. Surprising coz I remembered he always asks me to teach him or guide him on the lectures and projects assigned by our professors. He even calls me up in the middle of the night just to ask a few clarifications on a particular subject matter. His grades are actually below par, and he stayed a couple of years more in school completing back subjects and projects necessary to finish the course.
I kinda lost track of him when I went to work abroad, and thought that he's just gonna be another employee at a certain company. Until I received an email from him a few weeks back saying he wants to visit Singapore, and it would be cool if we could hang out again. I'm not demeaning him or anything it just is a surprise to find out he became successful after all the troubles he went thru. I guess the will to survive and become successful is something we all must possess in order to survive this harsh world we live in, and I'm glad to know he has it.
So do you know anyone who did badly in school, then had a successful career afterwards? Were you surprised they became successful and how did you feel about it?

It is not a surprising thing for me, because I have many friends who did poorly in school while have a successful career now. I think maybe they are just not good at or not interested in the boring text. But they excel at sales or communication skills, so they can make good use of it and find their best suitable career.

It was surprising of course. I knew someone who did poorly at school but many years passed by, I have heard that he's now a CEO at an exclusive stock exchange company in the Philippines. Looking back at the past, I could say that he had climbed a long way to the top and made a lot of improvements to become successful.
Remember the pick-up lines from Sarah Connor of the Terminator?
"Fate is what we make it."
So the more we work towards something, the more likely it is going to happen. I believe all things are possible, especially fate.
