Is the extended dvd edition worth it? I've heard some great scenes were left out of the basic dvd. How much is the extended? I love all the movies, just wondering if it is worth it to buy extended... Thanks.

I have the extended versions of all them. If you are a big fan then I would highly recommend them. They do have great scenes added to them and then listening to the commentaries is really funny. All the guys tell what was going on while they were filming the scenes and having to sit around for so long to put their hobbit feet on, I was laughing most of the time. If you are a fan, but don't think you would really want to sit down even longer than normal then probably not, or if its the cost I would pick one at a time maybe. I highly recommend getting the Return of the King extended. It is by far my favorite as there is a scene at the end that I think should have been left in the movie to begin with, it was SO good. Also, if you just want to see the scenes and don't have anyone to bother them from, you could always rent them. I have seen the extended versions at a couple movie rental places, including Blockbuster I believe. Hope I was able to help you! Have a great day!

Thank you both very much. I think I may have to go out and purchase them. Or, at least the Return of the King. I love these movies so much. They never get old!

This has all pretty much been said already, but I also would HIGHLY recommend getting the extended versions as well. I don't even watch the theatrical versions anymore, because they leave so many great scenes out. However, the extended versions ARE long. If you have a hard time sitting through almost 4 hours of a movie (even one so good as this), then no problem! They are split into two halves, each half equaling about the length of a normal run-of-the-mill film, so you can just watch one half at a time! Also, as has been mentioned, the cast commentaries on the films are hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the actors banter, and to really hear that they became really good friends through their journey filming the movies. The hobbit boys are especially funny together. :D "How many times Elijah, you can't double-tig a tag!"

I have the 4 disc extended versions of all 3. And they are very well worth it! Lots of extra material, documentaries, commentaries, plus much more. And the extra scenes add a lot to the characters and the story line.
