The Easiest Way

you can learn faster by using tabs.... and of course memorizing the corresponding chord with it, and i know that for sure because that's how i learned. you can opt to studying the notes if you want to compose songs and melodies, but you can still do that without learning the notes, it will just sound better and make producers read your compositions easily. but beware of playing too much, it will ruin your fingers and your nails too!... i hope i helped you decide. smile!, mai

although it is easier to learn using tabs, its better to learn to read music. there's a lot of work out there for musicians who can read.

Hi summerfire, when I first learnt the guitar I was shown a few cords and practiced with those then eventually was playing by ear, yes it is good to get a guitar cord book and go from there, but if you feel you need lessons then do that, whichever you will have your homework playing it even if it is just for 10mins a day...bb littleowl

I think using tabs will speed up your learning. Tabs are easier to read and memorize since the resemble the fretboard. Learning the notes is a magnificent excercise that will deepen your understanding of the structure of music, but is not necessary to play a song or strum a progression. Do what you like and what works for you! Your goal is to play, so if you do it easier with tabs, go that way! Learning should be a fun process, not a frustrating one. Have fun and do your own thing! I think that you can learn a lot faster from tabs and you can also learn just about any song by some of your favorite artists. I would suggest learning just about anything you can for the guitar though if you want to get really good really fast. Guitar is a really fun hobby to pick up and really helps you express emotions and creative ideas.
