Every night I watch the news and they always have some congressman or senator that has served for 40 years on there running there mouth. If you think about it, over a 40 year carrer in congress, don't you think that they've been lobbied so much that it's pretty easy to influence them? Do you think that term limits for congress would help eliminate SOME of the corruption in washington? Do you think that no term limits for congress gives our representatives the experience they need to properly fight for their constituents? What are your thoughts?

After all that time there are so many hands in each senator's pockets that they answer almost solely to those lining their pockets while their constituents are a mere afterthought. That's why you have criminals like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Ted Stevens who can sit in their positions for decades without fear. He1l, Barney Frank let his roommate use their home as a whorehouse and nobody seemed to mind. Ted Stevens was found guilty of 7 counts of corruption and he'll get a free pass. These people have so much power that they are simply above the law.

I've had truly mixed feelings about term limits for as long as I've been familiar with the phrase or the concept of term limits. On one hand, it seems to not make sense that just when someone gets good at what they do, they get "fired". On the other hand, I agree that at least for some they do become more corrupt the longer they hold office. Back during the Gingrich "revolution" of 1994 many of the newly elected GOP members of the House of Representatives based their campaigns on promises to only serve a limited number of terms but few of them kept those promises. I guess it all comes down to we the voters holding the key to term limits; if we decide we don't want someone to continue representing us, no matter how long or short a time they've been in office, we can simply vote them out. The truth of the matter is, most people who say they disapprove of Congress in general and would like to limit their terms will also say they LIKE their own Representative and wouldn't mind if he or she remains in office until the day they die. Just like it's only "pork" if it's someone ELSE'S pork!

I think that congressional seats are the US equivalent of a monarchy. Sure, we have a president who now and then gets to sign executive orders and, only when they allow him for having kissed the behinds of congressional members!
