MY 9 year old daughter was born weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce and put on weight really fast, she was very tubby until the age of about 3. she weighed nearly 3 stones then.
a teacher commented on her weight today which has got me a little worried, she bacically asked me if my daughter had lost weight.
since age 3 she has always been skinny, her baby weight dropped off her and there was no cut backs with her eating. in fact if anything my daughter probably eats too much lol.
she isnt a fussy eater and will eat almost anything, loves fruits and most veggies, has far too many sweets and rubbish, like most kids i suppose.
she finishes every meal i give her and sometimes even has seconds.
she isnt a sickly girl just gets the usual cold every now and then, other then that she does not complain often of any tummy aches and her bowels seem normal.
she is quite active i guess and always running around, and at school too. im not sure of her height but uk size 7-8 years clothes have recently become too short for her so she is now in soze 8-9 years though its very big for her around the waist.
my other daughter is 5 in 2 weeks time and is the opposite, although she does not look too big now, she was 2 stone at the age of 1 but then started to slim down at the age of 2. she now weighs just under 3 and a half stone. her dad is 6 ft 4 so im guessign she will grow into her weight anyway.
my 9 year old is just a few pounds heavier then her but 4 years older and possibly eats more and their activity levels are more enough the same, though the 5 yr old is a little more active id say.
i have booked a doctors appointment for monday to get her height and weight checked out but i was just wondering whats everyones views on this and also id appreciate if you could tell me how much your nine year old daughter weighs, or did weigh at that age, my daughter just turned 9 last month.
also does anyone know what the average weight is for 9 year old?could it be something like worms tht has stopped her putting on weight?

Dear Jarael
I dont know what your daughter should weigh but she certainly does not sound underweight.
I think with all the talk about obesity and a lot of children being this it shows "a normal" whatever that is as looking smaller than she is.
My daughter is called Petite and she eats like a horse and is now a Mum but sometimes she can still buy her clothes in the teens section and hey it is cheaper.Like your daughter when she was young she was always on the go and slim. You have checked everything and as it is okay please dont worry. Some children and Adults are just naturally skinny. Please dont let your daughter know you are worried or you will have eating problems with her later on. Good luck

im pretty much sure she is ok too and she does not know i am worried. just want to get her checked out for worms and also make sure she is absorbing and digesting food as she should as she gets a lot of wind and also groaning noises coming from her upper body area and up her throat. i ask her what she is doin and she says she cant help it.
also she is only 12 pounds heavier then she was at 3 or 4, thought they were meant to put on more than tht.

Just a thought do you have those weighing machines in the Mall like we do in England that you can weigh yourself and type in your age and the machine tells you how much you weigh and your body mass etc?

I have just found a site that you put her height in and they will tell you what she should weigh at 9 years old. Go to www.mayoclinic.com/health/bmi-calculator/NU00597.
Please let me know if this helps x
