I build my own computers, so I don't have to worry about voiding a warranty if I open up the case. The first thing that I do is make sure that my PC isn't in an enclosed area where dust can easily collect. I keep the area clean on a regular basis in order to limit dustiness and I clean the inside of my computers every couple of months. I remove all fans and wipe them down. Because I clean regularly, and there isn't much dust inside my case anyway, a can of compressed air will suffice. Cheers.

bayernfan, that must really require quite a bit of work, especially considering the amount of dust you must have to contend with regularly. I only wish I could be the same with my laptop. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, it seems like my attempt to rid it of dust is futile, as it's like a dust magnet.
Stay positive and Happy myLotting!

bayernfan, that's really a sound advice that I'll take to heart, as it may just help me to deal with my laptop's dust problems.
Thanks for your insightful post and Happy myLotting!

It's not a lot of work for me at all. I do not have to contend with much dust because I dust and clean regularly. Spending a small amount of time doing tasks regularly prevents the need to spend large amounts of time doing it later.

If you mean to clean the dust off of it and finger marks I usually clean it as needed. I use a windex type cleaner.
If you mean to clean out the files in the system I usually delete the temporary internet files when the computer gets really slow.

As I mean the former, seabeauty, may I ask where you can purchase a windex type cleaner?
Thanks a lot for your contribution and Happy myLotting!

If I may ask, pandaemonaeon, exactly how do you go about cleaning your computer using "air compressed" and where is it being sold?
Thanks and Happy myLotting!

I say twice or thrice a week. I am using Tune-Up Utilities, WinUtilities, Advance
System Care 3 and ATF Cleaner. I run these programs for cleaning my computer's temorary files, fixing and deleting unnecessary registry, and other functions. It also defrag your hard disk drive which will maximize the speed of your computer. IO run my 3 anti-virus for security purposes because it is also part of cleaning my computer. The last is running norton ghost for back up my drive c. In case of system failure, I have an image file of my drive c: and ready to restore.

While you're answer is not exactly what the discussion is asking for, may I ask whether the programs you're running to clean your computer freewares? If they are, where can such be downloaded for free? Thanks!
OnT: How do you clean the exterior of your computer? What do you use to clean it?
Thanks again and Happy myLotting!

I clean my computer a day. I clean the dust on my keyboard using mini vacuum. This mini vacuum is good to clean dust on keyboard even in the cooling fan. I can't clean registry because I am not sure what files to delete..lol..I'm running my anti-virus twice a week, and I have no problem about virus.
I want to answer on where to get free download? You can download freeware in download.com there are many freeware on this sites.

I use a vacuum and spray air into my computer. I don't know of any other way to clean a computer.
I do this as often as I can. I usually wait too long and it over heats. :(

i use cavi-wipes lol. they kill bacteria, and you just swipe them over. for the screen, i use a cloth that came with the computer meant for that purpose. i usually do about once a week at least, unless i feel or notice it needs it sooner. (i'm assuming this is what you meant, and not cleaning out the files on the actual computer, right? lol.)

That's precisely what I meant, Carolinaqt782.
Where can the cavi-wipes be bought, by the way? I might just try it out soon to see whether it could work on my laptop. Thanks and Happy myLotting!

Keyboard gets a wipedown every week or two; I try to keep it clean & wipe off the oil from the fingers. The rest of the case gets much less frequent cleaning.
My laptop would be a lot cleaner if I could resist the temptation to eat and drink while I'm using it, but that seems to be a losing battle!

yes sometimes i clean my computer i think at least once in a month or more it depends how much it will be dirty in short period!!
In reality for the screen i use special things to clean up and in this way it will be good even if normally it takes not much time after it need to clean another time..

I have 3 steps for cleaning my laptop.
1) I get a can of compressed air (should be available from your local pc store or you can get it online) and I give a quick burst of air into the fan area of the laptop.
2) Next I get a post it note and insert the sticky side in between the keys and slide it left and right. You will be shocked at how much dirt you get out by doing this.
3) With a screen wipe I give the keyboard and all the casing a wipe over to remove greasy finger prints and general dirt.
I do all this basically once a week, but generally give the keyboard a wipe over at least every other day.

I have a special dusting brush for my laptop. I use it every day. For the screen, I use eyeglass cleaner sprayed on a soft cloth. For the keys, I use baby wipes.

I clean the physical parts of my Desktop computers once in every four months as it is highly important to maintain them clean as the bacterias and germs that are present in our keyboard is 100 times greater than the bacterias and germs that are present in our toilet. The case is much worser when it comes to laptop and it requires regular cleaning. I mean cleaning for atleast once in every 3 weeks as they contain more bacterias and germs than the desktop computers. I personally do not own a lap top and if I have one, then i would definitely clean it regularly. I mean as said earlier, I would clean my laptop for atleast once in 3 weeks.

I just wipe my whole computer down with a damp cloth when ever it starts getting dusty. The in side of my mouse is what I have to take apart sometimes and clean it or it starts to stick.

we clean our computers (we have 10) everyday, from the mouses to the monitors and clean the cpu's inside at least every two weeks, brush the MB, remove and clean the memory stick with brush and eraser. For the files I don't have much problem with it coz I used deepfreeze program, all unnecessary files and downloads were removed once the pc restarted or turn off.
