Bad hair eras

We've all had bad hair days but looking back at some old photos I came to the realization that I did not have just bad hair days, I had bad hair eras, long (way too long) periods of my life when I sported terrible, terrible hair styles; two come to mind, the tight curly perm cut into a lovely mullet style and the other was the big "Farrah" flick which took me hours to do with a curling iron. Yep, there has been some bad styles, I don't know what is worse, the mullet, the tight fizzy perm or the comb over? What do you think? What terrible styles have you proudly worn? Pictures are welcome...

My daughter and I visit the hairdresser every three months or so and get the split ends trimmed. Between us we do use a lot of shampoo and conditioner!

I have waist long hair now and I haven't used a curling iron since the 80s. My husband asked me to cut it but I have had long hair for such a long time I just can't cut it, my daughter has really long hair too. If that is you in the picture your hair looks great! Thanks for responding diansinta!

LOL...I was very trendy as a teen. I wish I had some pics to share but I don't. I used to tease mine alot. The bangs looked like a little puff ball sitting on my head..LOL..an eightys thing.

I remember doing that! I'd spend hours sitting there with a curling iron, spraying my hair while it's in the iron, and then teasing it until it was just right. Then of course you totally freak out if there's any sort of wind blowing that day!!

I remember teasing my hair, I made such a mess of it! I couldn't get the comb through it afterwards. I had a huge head of hair full of hairspray, it looked horrible on me! The things we do... thanks for sharing Jen!

Bad Hair - I think I tried all of these at least once...
Back when I was eight years old, there was this rap group called Salt n Pepa...I remember wanting my hair done like Pepa's so bad and my mother said no..she said no because I always had a lot of hair and the thought of someone shaving various parts of it off made my mother want to have an asthma attack...so I waited for her to go to work one day and had my brother's girlfriend to do my hair anyway...I think I added the picture of what her hair looked like...

She freaked out so bad she chased me around the house with a belt until she had an asthma attack..I ended up grounded for six months and when my hair finally did grow back, she still wouldn't speak to me..I had no idea she was so serious about my hair..

I bet your poor mother freaked! Hope it didn't take too long to grow back! I cut a chunk of my hair when I was about 7 and ended up with a bald patch that took forever to grow out! Great response! Thanks!

Hahaha... I still remember my bad hair eras with a some funny stiff gelled short hair. It was copyrighted and no body could ever have the same. My mom used to cut my hair with finesse and I used to perk it up with the most funny (now it appears so) setting by grazing through my hair with my fingers. I had sported this style for long only to get outdated 9-10 years ago when I decided to grow my hair. I am looking for some photograph for you Paula.

Hi mimpi! I'm too embarrassed to post my bad hair photographs! It's funny how we cringe now looking back but at the time we thought we looked great! Thanks for responding and for leaving that great comment on my profile! Good friends are precious!

I think today's styles are the worst. People actually spend hours making their hair look as if they just rolled out of bed!! When I'm just sitting around the house I usually will just throw my hair back in a pony tail, and it never looks very neat because it's not like I brush it before I do this. Well the other day I saw this singer on TV who'd done the same thing to her hair as I normally do to mine, only she was on national TV and probably had a dozen or so stylists get her hair to look like that, while I feel like leaving the house looking that way is embarassing!

I know what you mean, it's that 'just got out of bed look' I can achieve that look myself quite cheaply every day around the house too, it's hard to believe that someone would actually pay someone to style their hair that way! My hair is long and when I'm home it is in a not too neat bun and doesn't get brushed again unless I go out. Thanks for responding!

I have to disagree with you as my hair is naturally bushy so it does not reall have a bad day its self neither do I as when I wake up, it still looks the same. Still Bushy and still hair on my head!

No bad hair days? Lucky you! If I don't brush my hair in the morning it’s quite a scary sight. Thanks for responding!

But in ten years you will think the same thing about your hair style you have now.

back in the late 80's early 90's i had a flat top. Used lots of hair gel to get it to stay up. Kids in school use to put chalkboard erasers and stuff on it. Everyone wanted to touch the crazy hair. I went to a very snobby school full of rich kids, and they all had the same normal haircut. Parted with the bangs in a swoosh.

I look back at pictures of me when I was younger and think, "OMG! Why in the world did I do that to my hair???". But as you said, it's all bad hair eras. lol In fact, I recently had 5" cut off. The next day I was on the phone with my daughter and I told her and the first thing she said to me was, "Mom, I hope you got rid of that 80's hair style...". LOL Little brat! :)

I wear my hair long and straight and after posting this discussion I wondered whether anybody thinks my hair belongs in a bygone era! Oh, well I like it...I think! Daughters can be brutally honest sometimes! Thanks for the response!
