if a toddler goes to school should he be in anyway eligible for pocket money? my 3 year old knows that every coin goes to his piggy bank. even coins with big denominations, left unattended, would disappear. sometimes he shows me before he puts the given or found coin in one of his three piggy banks.
my point is my child already knows the concept of money. i manage to ask him to be the one to hand over any payment in the corner store or even at the mall. i want to extend this when he goes to school.

I think young children should receive pocket money in return for small favours/chores or for doing a good deed. I don't think they should receive money just out of the blue as is isn't real life - you need to work for money. Then again, maybe they shouldn't be taught about money in the real world at such young age.

that was a good idea...i'd give him pocket money if he does his chores, in this case putting away his toys, before he goes to school. i'd try and see other chores as he grows older...

I think young children should receive allowance money in return for doing mini jobs around the house, and just helping out a little, i think it would help them understand as they get older how to take a responsibility in things, as they are gonna have to do when they are adults. Its also like teaching them how when you get a job, you work and get your wage, thats what doing chores and things are like (a job) and they should get a little money, not too much if you cant afford it though.

I don't think schools usually even sell things for the preschool students. When I volunteered as an assistant the youngest kids who brought money for snacks were the kindergarten students. The youngest students always had their parent pre-pay for their food and they didn't get a choice on snacks like the older kids did.
But that is good that you are teaching your child the value of money early. Make him earn some pocket money for when you guys go shopping. Just have him do small chores that a 3 year old would be able to do.

I don't think there is really a need for pre-schoolers to have pocket money since the best way for us parents to make sure that they eat healthy is to let them bring home prepared food. Although my parents used to give us a peso for us to buy lollies or chips after school time (but not regularly), I still personally think we did not need it because our parents can always put food for our afternoon snack in our bags. Your kid though can be rewarded with some coins for being helpful with house chores since he already knows the concept of saving. This is a good way to teach kids the value of money.
