Unknown seedling - I did not mark my seeds and have no idea what this is yet.

I do this almost each year with my seedlings. I plant them but do not mark them as to what is what. So now in this photo is something sprouting up and I have no idea what it is. I know it's not corn nor beans of any sort. Can you help me possibly identify this seedling? Do you mark your seeds when you first start them off? Do you just plant and wait till they are big and then know what they are? I usually do that. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I know that I would not be of any help with this. Anytime we get a plant of any type we keep the tab that is stuck in there to tell about it and how to take care of it. As for seeds for a garden I always would keep the pgks and get some type of stick and put them in the ground so I would know what was what when they were too young to tell.

Sometimes those tabs are wrong. I planted pimientos last year, according to the tab. What I got was habaneros, mucho hot pepper, I just thought they were underdeveloped pimientos.

I wish I could help you. I have mystery seeds growing as we speak. Here is the deal I was transfering my seeds from packet to a more permanent home in clean pill bottles. I normally print out a label and stick it on the bottle right away. ....I got distracted and now I have no clue what they are except that from the size of the seed it looks to be some kind of herb, raddish, onion, carrot or something along those lines.

When I transfer these to the cups I use, I use a permanent marker and write down what they are as long as I know that. Hahaha! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Judging form the picture, I would say you have beet sprouts. You can tell by the color. I love to eat beet sprouts....you make me hungry for...

I love beets, too. That seedling could be beets, but also could be radishes.

It's hard to tell at this stage. Every year I say "next year I'm going to mark them". Then when it's time to mark them I say "I'll do it later" and don't. They grow so fast and it's usually not long before you can tell what they are though.

I looked but I guess I've been off the farm too long. I have no idea what it could be. You may just have to wait until it grows up some to identify it.

Well, my first thought would be, with a red stem, that it may be a radish or a beet plant. I would know or guess more if I knew what seeds you had planted. You have eliminated corn and beans, otherwise, I would have thought it was a bean because it obviously is a dycot seed. I can hardly wait to see what others say.

I had chopped one into a salad and a couple into a pot of potato soup, about four quarts or more. It made me continuously aware of its presence. Hubby enjoyed it.

no idea I think it'll be too early to tell until it gets it's 2nd or 3rd set of leaves, then post a new pic if you don't know what it is by then. ;0)

I'm not expert by far grandpa Bob but to me it looks like it is some kind of a seedling that spouted from a large seed, like a melon or sunflower. Do you remember what ones you did plant? Maybe if you can narrow the field down for us we might be able to help you figure it out easier. So far this season, I have planted only tomatos and green peppers. They are not doing too well at this point and I might have to start over when the weather gets a little better. It is hard for me to seed them indoors because my cat likes to uproot them and them eat them!

I wouldn't rule out a bean yet. Hard to tell before the second set of leaves come in. Did you plant any squash or melons? Could be that too. Sorry I'm not more help. Look at the bright side, at least it doesn't look like anything that's illegal.

hi grandpa bob...wow if you don't know with your green thumb. i've seen seedlings with that reddish stem that were baby tomatoes. that's the best guess i can give. good luck with your identity crisis.
