Can you have dual citizenship?

Have you ever thought of migrating to other country for a change of environment. Having born and breed in your birth country, wouldn't it be nice to retire and spend the other part of life retiring in another country. Moving to another place doesn't mean you are a traitor to your country but is it possible to be a citizen of another country while maintaining the citizenship of your birth country?
Having said this I have shifted my allegiance to this place, mylot, and moved to another place, a more interesting and not so stressful environment for something new and in the company of a different group of like minded people in the pursuit of the love of writing and sharing ideas and of course a fair amount of compensation in a more conducive atmosphere. Most of my neighbors in mylot are there enjoying the fruit of their labor and could not resist being with them as I realized that putting up too long in one place has set in a lot of controversy and maybe jealousy which is not healthy for the advancement of oneself. Bearing in mind that I am a seasoned member in mylot I would not surrender my citizenship here as yet but will always make this place a place that groomed me to be literate in writing and enabled me to make many many wonderful friends that I so treasure. I will now have to divide my time between here and there but definitely be back here more often as I don't want to miss your posts. If you are keen to know my great find, pm me and I'll be glad to share.

I have certainly thought about living in another country. This issue has crossed my mind. And I certainly think that it is possible to have dual citizenship. I'm definitely considering having dual citizenship. I really enjoy traveling, and such, which is probably why I'd enjoy living in another country, other than the country I was born in.

You're quite adventurous. It is of course nice to feel life in a new environment but honestly, it is hard to leave the place you are familiar with and leaving all good memories behind for an unknown land is a gamble in itself. My roots are in my birth country where I have sweat and toil to be where I am now. I have not thought of uprooting myself anywhere.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
Congretulations for your lovely 'AVatar' and next for reaching big myLot post '3500'
Why do you change your Avatar. I know, it is entirely personal. But, as I think of
replying your discussion. I think, I am enjoying multi-Nation citizenship. When I am
responding to you, I think i am part and parcel of "Malaysia'. Similarly other places.
So I too would wish to remain this part of the citizenship.
May God bless you and have a great time.

Great discussion and I love the way you transitioned from citizenship of a country to that of your loyalty on the internet.
Yes, you can be a dual citizen. I am both a citizen of Brazil and on of the US. I have two passports even though I was born here in the US. Mom wasn't a citizen yet and dad was a citizen. So that gave me the chance to have the best of both countries.
On the other note, I feel your pain about feeling torn between two sites. I started a myspace YEARS ago, when it first came out. I must admit that myspace has grown faster than I could have imagined (but good for Tom), even though it is not the most user friendly and is filled with more too many teens. Within the last year I opened a facebook account to try and keep up with friends and family like I was trying on facebook. But most of my older family members did not like the site and often lost interest in it when trying to do certain things that required more computer experience than they had. So now, I only log onto myspace to play MafiaWars and make sure no one e-mailed (there are only a few that didn't transition with me to facebook).
People laugh that I have both....but each individually satisfy certain things that I want. I too have really enjoyed making friends on these social networking sites. But that's the problem. Sometimes you join a site and it turns out that it is not the right one for you. But all of a sudden changes are made and a site you had long forgotten you joined, sends you an e-mail to check out the changes. And while your are thinking about checking it out you hear the name of that site....and with all of the changes the site finally suits your needs.
I really think that myLot suits certain needs in certain ways. I have found some other sites but I've been faithful to this site. There are so many aspects of this site still that I need to figure out. I'm getting the hang of it though.

i think it is possible to have dual citizenship but some countries donot allow that.my niece was born in the u.s ,hence she is a citizen of that country but since her parents are indians, shes also a citizen of india.i would like to know about this new site but i donot think i will get the time to come there.as in a months time,i have to shift to my in-laws place where i wont get much time to mylot.

Maybe it depends on where they come from and the laws of the country. In Malaysia they do not allow her citizens to hold citizenship in other countries but it is quite alright if it is only PR of another country. If anyone intend to migrate for good to another country then they need to relinquish their Malaysian citizenship.

I live on a farm in Canada in the summer, and in the winter I live in South Texas USA. I own property in both Countries and don't need dual citizenship. All that is needed is a Passport at the border, as I pass through. Its very cold and icy in Canada in the winter, but in South Texas its summer all year around. I enjoy myLot too, and I write on it where ever I am Living.

I don't know what everyone's fuse is about this place. I have been a member for a year now and have noticed so many people complaining about the topics, the people and other things. It's just a website. People shouldn't have to get in a huff about it and switch pages. But that is just some peoples choice. I love this place I have checked out other writing sites and I don't like them at all. I gave up on finding other sites and learned to enjoy mylot and block out all the negativity people have. My only complaint about this site is that people make stupid posts about how they moved to other sites or how they are leaving the site and not returning because of certain users. Like if you moved to another site because you dislike this one why would you post on here. Obviously to get referrals to your new location.
But I agree with you on the country talk. I would love to live in another country to learn and live new experiences.

I have no complain about mylot. I like mylot and threat this place as my home in the virtual world. There is nothing better then mylot as it has a class above the many sites around. That explains why I have been here for the past 3 years and never tire of mylotting. Every discussions has it own character and presentation and it is up to individuals to read and understand it in her own understanding. I believe mylot as a social site needs people like you and me to share what is good and discard what is bad to everyone. And I am sharing and not looking for referrals and not promoting other sites. My friends here are great and happy to share with them something that I think they ought to know and happy to be multi tasking with mylot. We need to diversify and not to put all our eggs in one basket in view of the bad economic situation. I hope you read me right.

Hi zandi!
Yes in many cases if you have been a dual citizen from birth or childhood, or else became a citizen of another country after already having US citizenship, and the other country in question does not have any laws or regulations requiring you to formally renounce your US citizenship before US consular officials, then current US law unambiguously assures your right to keep both citizenships for life.
Besides within India itself the people of Jammu and Kashmir enjoy duel citizen ship. They are the citizen of both J&K and India as well.
Even I know the Indian Nepalese are enjoying duel citizenship.

Hi Rajib, I think patriotism is the key here when you have dual citizenship. How would you serve two masters. Where does your heart really belongs to? Our Malaysian Government is strict and would not allow its citizens to have dual citizens. We have to surrender our Malaysian citizenship if we have become citizen of another country. Though it is undemocratic to curb individual choice but I think our Government is discouraging the exodus of brain drain as many professionals are leaving for greener pastures. I still prefer my birth country Malaysia even though it rains gold in other country, I am here to stay.

Hi zandu!
I really support your Govt forcing to make the final choice. In case it is not there in the countries as I mentioned elsewhere, you do not have to serve two masters I guess for your original heart is already there planted and have huge roots where you really belonged to and the other country where you are the second citizen is to meet some purpose of yours and there is hardly any needs to pour your heart there. Besides the heart is not divisible.

What a great discussion, zandi. I have thought of dual citizenship before. Actually my husband and I moved to another country 6 years ago and are trying to work out the paperwork. I love my new country as well as my old one. I would love to hear more about the new place that you are investing time in. I love mylot and will continue to contribute here, but as my past history show, I am also open to new ideas. I will add you as a friend and try to pm you.

Me and my husband has long been considering raising a family elsewhere because we just do not feel that our country (especially in politics) will improve in the next 10 years. It is allowed in our country to have a dual citizenship and should there be more benefits than hassles in doing so, we will opt for the dual citizenship.

Hi zandi! So that's what has happend to you! I can't pm you
because mylot pm's don't send for me so will you please pm
me with this infor or email me opal2626@yahoo.com. That way
would be better so that I can speak to you back. I don't
think that being a member of two places is wrong! It is your
right to be wherever you want to be. This is the freedom with
which we are allowed to make our own choices and do what we
want! That is the beauty of this part of the world! We don't
have to make choices that lock us in to any particular place!
Look forward to hearing from me you dear friend!

Great Opal, I hope more friends can come forward to share their emails. I have got few emails from friends here too and so much fun sharing jokes with them through the emails. It is just something to break the monotony of being too much dependent on mylot. I think it is good that we venture to something more light and easy for a change. And this one is. I hope you can check that out.

You have found somewhere to spread your talents that is as good as MyLot? Really? I will pm you to find out where it is. I have tried taking up residency in other places but I always end up coming back here. I don't know what it is about this place, maybe the vast array of topics, its user friendliness, I don't know, it's the people that make it I guess. Please keep coming back zandi, I love the way you write and I would surely miss your clever posts.

You guess, my shadow will always be hovering around mylot. I am a 'permanent and pensionable' citizen of mylot. How could I ever leave this place. Mylot is so much superior compared to all newborn sites that has no class at all, I mean in terms of quality and varied posts. Here we interact with people of substance that has so much to share while other places only specialize in certain topic but is of great help in our daily life.
