I always wonder what makes people read the types of books that they read? I personally like to read almost anything except westerns. The very first book that I feel in love with was Little Women. That book started me on my lifetime obsession with books and reading. I will read from almost every genre as long as the fictional story is not set in the old west, but my two favorite genres are romance(historical and contemporary) and mainstream fiction. The reason being, when I pick something to read I like to escape to someones life that I may like to be or at least someones life that I can relate to on some level. That's one of the reasons I rarely read sci-fi. That genre for the most part is beyond my comprehension.
What's your favorite and why? What was the book that you read that made fall in love with the genre you deem to be your favorite?

I read fantasy every once in a while, but I am more of a paranormal kind of girl. I am also a fan of historical fiction. It's just something about the use of words, the clothes, the differences and similarities in society(compared to today), and the huge gap between the way women and men were treated. Women in the world, we have definitely come a long way.

I really don't have a favorite genre. I tend to wonder around bookstores and pick up books that the cover jump out at me and read the blurb and then a few pages like the prologue and the first page. If it seems interesting I pick it up. I am tempted to head to my local library and see if they have any of the authors I have been reading lately.

I have to admit I do that sometimes myself. Even though I do have a favorite genre, I will read from most if I find a book that sounds intriguing. I usually go to Walmart's book section and look around. If something stands out I will read the synopsis. If that seems ok I read a few pages of the prologue or first chapter. If I like it I will first go see if they have it at my local library and then check to see if I can rent it using my booksfree.com account. If not I will go buy it. Sound like a lot of trouble, but if I can save a little money I will.

I love to read novels especially those with a setting overseas. I quite like romantic fiction and I adore historical fiction. I hate science fiction and wild west stories. I don't like mystery if it is really frightening. It can be fascinating to read biographies because these are true stories. I am very keen on traveling so travel writing in perfect for me. It is challenging to choose a favorite since I love so many books. I read one of the travel novels by Paul Theroux and loved it. So I carried on reading that genre.

You mention that you like novels with overseas settings, I do too. When I read historical romances I favor the ones set in England and Scotland more than any other place. Of course I also love pirates, so I read a lot of books with handsome pirates also. I agree with you that reading biographies are fascinating especially if its about a person that you really like. My favorite biography or autobiography todate is Fran Drescher's. She had two books and I totally captivated. I always love her on The Nanny, but to know her story made me love her more. Another one, is Michael J. Fox, loved his too. That thing about you not liking fiction if it is really frightening, well that's may favorite kind of mystery to read. The first mystery novel I read was From Potter's Field by Patricia Cornwell. I was so scared I would sleep with the lights on at night, but I loved every minute of it. Every book that I have ever read by her has always had me on the edge of my seat with fear, because the stories seem so real.
Lastly, since you like historical and romantic fiction I want to introduce you to one of my favorite historical romance authors. If you have already read her work then disregard this part of my message. Samantha James. You can check out her website to see what books she has written and rather or not they are part of a series. If you read or have read one of her books let me know what you thought.
