I have been using My Computer for 2.5 years. I have used many anti virus softwares.
The anti virus softwares which I used are AVG 7.5, TrendMicro Antivirus, PC-Cillin Antivirus, Norton Antivirus 2006, and Avast Antvirus.
Now I am using BitDefender Antivirus 2009. It is the Award Winning Antivirus software of the year 2009. And I have found it 100 times better than all the antivirus softwares I have used before.

I use COMODO Internet Security because it's free and complete. It has Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, and Defense+ that will protect you from Buffer Overflow attacks.
Well, Their AV Engine nowadays getting good. Their Firewall is powerful though.
Ah yeah, you asked for AV. Avira is good at detecting. Just use that. I'm using COMODO just because It's firewall and I'm lazy to Install Avira.
Don't use AVG because It might cause problem to your PC. Remember the user32.dll incident..Also, AVG is bad at detecting viruses.

I am currently using Avast! Anti Virus and it has been quite good in finding the viruses that AVG has missed. I'm quite satisfied with Avast right now, providing almost the same security as the licensed version of Mc Affe (which I had used before AVG). I have also tried PC-cillin before in my old computer, though it didn't do much because I could not update it. For me, even if the free anti virus softwares out there can do the job, if you are someone who spends a lot of time in the internet, investing in a licensed anti virus software like Norton or Mc Affe would be the best choice.
