How often do you take a time out?

How often do you stop what you're doing and just take a break? Give yourself a time out? Just relax for 5 minutes before moving onto the next task? As a smoker I would take time outs quite frequently. I'd wake up in the morning and immediatly sit and smoke, and usually wouldn't move for at least an hour. I'd stay right here on my computer smoking and doing my work until I was awake enough to begin some other tasks. Then I would take a smoke break in between tasks. I'd fold laundry, then have a smoke, do dishes, then have a smoke, start dinner, then have a smoke....etc etc etc. Well I quit smoking last Sunday. I find myself being able to get a lot more accomplished, and I can do it all faster. Actually I'm finding myself bored quite often because I've gotten everything done so quickly. But I am noticing that I still need to give myself a time out every so often. If I don't take regular breaks, and just sit at the computer sipping my soda and checking e-mail, then I'll start to get grumpy and stressed out, and I will snap very quickly once I start to become stressed. So as soon as I notice myself becoming stressed I'll just sit down and relax for as long as I need to until I feel better. I might have to do this at least once a half hour. I wonder if it's part of my smoking habit?

You know what Jesus is my stress buster, stress reliever. When I give it all to God, He takes care of me. I don't have a thing to worry about or be stressed out about. Stressing isn't good or healthy for us. Stress kills. The Word of God is an excellent choice to relieve stress and also prayer. Prayer WORKS! Believe me I know. I've tried it and it works for me. Jesus is real and prayer certainly works.

If you reread the discussion.. I didn't ask how do you handle stress, or what are your religious views. I asked how often do you take a break. Your response makes me feel like you're trying to push religion.

I have a five minute break scheduled for next Thursday. lol I smoke too so I guess I get quite a few. However, I do my chores with a smoke in my mouth. Dishes, laundry, floors etc.

I think I am just grumpy by nature, so I need those kinds of breaks every so often. Mostly I need my breaks from the kids. I don't really get them during the day while Jeremy is at school, but when he is home I will sometimes send them off together so I can take a break.

I know what you mean. Once the older kids are home I have my oldest take the toddler to the bathroom for me and get drinks for the baby and stuff like that just so I can sit for 5 minutes without an interruption.

i noticed that if i am at an actual job i will only take a break when they give it to me. i am hard worker and enjoy to do what i do. on the other hand if i am at home and working online or one something on my computer or something like that then i will take breaks every so often, and i still get the work or whatever i am doing at the time done when it needs to be done. it is usually only a break for like five or ten minutes. it varies with what i am doing. if i get stuck on something then i leave it for a while and when i come back i am fresh and can do it and complete it with my full potential.

I have been working on the computer for a couple of hours and all of a sudden I noticed that it is 3:00 p.m and WGN has on the old "I Dream of Jeannie" series. Today is the first one ever made so that is a nice treat. It's nice to sit in my recliner with the laptop and watch an old show while I type this to you. Taking breaks are so necessary. Soon I should get on the treadmill for the day (doctor's orders)!

Very often... I am unable to stretch my on something more than an hour. After this I started to lose my concentration. It is always better to take break to regain the lost concentration specially when reading something. For time out, I usually listen to music or if possible then go out in the park. I never smoked, so I don't think that it is due to smoking habit. There is always a limit to the brain. It also needs break. And as you whether smoker or non smoker all feel gumpy and stressed, sitting a bit longer on the computer....
