As I am new to AC, I have so many queries. One of them being, the article I submitted to AC for upfront payment got rejected. It says I can republish it for performance views. My question is, I had given exclusive rights to AC for that article. If I decide not to publish it on AC, but is it okay to take the article and try publishing it on some other site?? Is their any violation? Please help.

Exclusive Rights hold waters only when the article is published. You free to republish it whereever you want or on AC with performance payment. When you did not get money then there is no question of loosing rights on your article. Even though, if you want security then don't delete the rejection mail that you have got from Associated Content.

Since it got rejected then you wont have any problems republishing it on another site. However if the article had gotten accepted and you chose exclusive then you cannot republish your articles anywhere else. I usually submit my articles for non exclusive rights since you dont make that much more for exclusive articles. I want to be able to publish them again as well.

I do the same. You can earn two or three times at a few different sites for just one article. Lately I was writing primarily for Factoidz since they only allow un-published works there and allow you to re-post on other sites after a 30-day waiting period. Typically I would write an article there and then wait 30 days or more to re-publish at AC/Y!CN and Bukisa. However, it seems Factoidz has been paying quite a bit lower lately so I might go back to using Associated Content/Yahoo! Contributor Network more now. I would like to start submitting up-front articles again, it's been a really long time since I have submitted one of those and the money did add up quite quickly with that method.

If Associated Content did not offer you money, and you have not accepted their offer to publish for page views, then feel free to try and sell the article elsewhere. I have done this in the past. Also if you decide you want to publish for page views, you should check nonexclusive. That way you can also post to other sites. For example, I post many of my AC articles on Helium first, then re-post them to AC for views only, thus enabling me to make money from two sites. You don't get as much as for upfront payments, but you still earn something from your efforts. Good luck with your writing.

Thanks. I have joined Helium too so I think I will try what you say. Good luck to you too.

If they didn't accept it for publication then they forfeit the exclusive rights. With AC you have three options... 1. Resubmit the article, as is, for page views. That way you get the performance bonus AND you can publish it somewhere else. 2. Simply delete the submission and submit it elsewhere. You lose the performance bonus but if you don't sell it you can always try it again on AC later. 3. The editors try to give reasons why they are not accepting an article for upfront payment or why they are offering so little (generally it's because they feel the topic is too broad or not something that will generate a lot of traffic). If they didn't give you a reason, email them and ask. They don't mind. I can't find the editors email address...they've made so many layout changes things that used to be really easy to find are now buried in the aesthetics. But here are the submission guidelines - maybe you can sort out through that why they might have not given you a bid. http://www.associatedcontent.com/guidelines.html
