Plain or Fancy

I was at a website today that looked like it was from the mid-1990s. Very plain web site that had some great content on it without having to navigate through many pages and tons of graphics... mostly all text.
Do you prefer a fancy web site that is pleasing to the eye or a website that gets right to the point at the expense of looking 'pretty'?
Thanks
Zelo

I like a but of both. I want something pleasing to the eye but mot overwhelmed with it. I like it to be easy enough to find what I need to do what I need to get done but still have a little so called eye candy so it isn't all technical.

... completely agree. There are sites that I find out there that try to be more than what they should be and there are sites that make me long for more than what the site has.
The right balance between the two is the key to a fabulous web site.
Thanks

I am one who would appreciate ease of navigation. Plain, but readable. I am a get to the point, tell me the punch line type girl.
