Does it bore you trying to decide what to have for dinner today?

I live in a house of 4 people. As I am the mum it falls on me to decide, what shall we have for dinner today? My son is 20 so it has been at least 20 years that I have faced this decision and I really am running out of ideas. We are on a very strict and small budget so that makes the desicion even harder as ingrediants are not cheap if you want to cook a meal for 4 from scratch, frozen meals are bland but cheap so these sometimes get the vote but I know how bad frozen meals are for you so this option can't be taken every day. I wish we could afford take aways or better still meals out but allas they are only for celebration meals so again I am returned to the age old question, What shall we have for dinner today? Any ideas?

I agree with you, I too, find it harder and harder to decide what to prepare for dinner. I have been preparing a lot of chicken, and even though chicken is what I normally eat, I am getting tired of it. My husband is a beef eater, not me. It is hard, and I welcome any opportunity to eat somewhere else rather than figure out what to cook. Like today, I am going to a party, and whatever I eat there will be it for the day. I will not cook today.
Yes, it is getting harder and harder.

I have the same problem, chicken does seem to be the main part of most of the dinners I prepare and I also wouldn't cook today if I went to a party, lucky you, hope you have fun at the party and eat lots of nice foods :)

Well, as I am only cooking for two, my husband and myself, thus I do not have the worries yet. We buy vegetables twice a week, and we also buy some meat and keep it in the freezer. Actually, I only know how to cook some simple dishes, vegetables with meat. Sometimes, a simple soup too. Sometimes I do go to Internet and look for some simple recipes if I want to have something different.

Well lately since things are getting so tight financially for us even, we go to places where they have great deals and when buying a Food item we will tend to stock up on them. This means buying the Big family size packages of meat, and stocking up on other items we use a lot of as well when they have good sales on them. We bought a case of Tuna Fish about 2 months ago so that is always something cheaper to have as well.
So we have been eating a lot of stuff like Spagetti, Tuna Casserole, and other things like that that are cheaper to fix as well. But there are times I can agree that trying to figure out what to fix for dinner can be a chore as well.

Sometimes it does. Usually I have to decide what to have for the dinner before I leave my office, so that we i arrive at the market, I can pick what I want without wasting time. But it often happens that when I arrive the market, I have to change my mind, because they are not selling what I want, or I see something better. That is live, we have to make decision, to change decision.

I don't get bored deciding what's for dinner as long as there's always budget for it. We can have lighter food anyway for dinner, as most of us have no other activities at night other than sleeping. Hehe although being said that way, really we still crave for a good dinner. You can read at the magazines or see TV programs suggested food preparations for dinner especially this lenten season. You may call your friends as well and know what they will be be preparing for dinner just to give you ideas.

Uh ... this sounds familiar. In fact not only for dinner but lunch as well. most of the time I will have mental road-block thinking of what to eat and where to eat. Day-in and day-out for the past 37 years of my life it revolves round the similar kind of food. So, yesterday lunch, i tried something different and I went to buy back some Javanese food and it taste quite delicious too.

it really does bore me and baffle me because we all like different things. there are 3 of us, one of which is a fussy 8 year old who has a very limited list of things he likes to eat. my husband takes everything i make and turns it into a sandwhich with melted cheese on it so i really wonder why i bother to cook at all. personally i like the idea of looking forward to something tasty and filling for dinner so i guess that is why i do it. if i had more money to buy better food i guess i would not be so bored with the whole thing because it tends to be the same old things week after week.

during my rest days, it tires me walking around looking for a nice restaurant. i'm new in this city and it's hard to experiment or try on to new and safe food.
i work at night so during supper time, i'm asleep and will have my night meal around 4am -- that's my scheduled lunch in my office.

that is my problem too. i don't have any more ideas on what to cook specially when i am on tight budget. but i don't cook for the whole family. we usually cook whatever we see on the ref. and no one will say any thing if the food is not that good or whatever. but when i want to budget and i want more healthy foods. i will just look at the ref. if there are some vegetables that seems not been used after some days in the ref and it will soon deteriorate i will first cooked that before it will totally lose it s freshness, then i will try to cook with less flavoring as possible. and sometimes i will just boil some fish with some tomato and onions and no salt whatever or even seasoning. that will be great for me already. though it may taste a little bland at least it is health. and also i make sure that i will eat the tomatoes and the onions i have cooked with the boiled fish.

It doesn't really bore me but its kinda aggravating looking for something new to eat other than chicken every other night. What I usual do is I look up different recipes on the internet.

I hate deciding what is for dinner. It is a pain every night. There are a few nights where I am like "we are having___" But most nights I am like what do you all want for dinner?
There are quite a few dishes that I like that the rest of my family does not so I get crapped out for most of my likes. We are also not a family that has various different meals, we usually have the same sort of meals every week. My daughter is a very picky eater so I always have to buy a bunch of oodles and noodles or spaghetti-o's for the nights that she doesn't like what we are having.
We are going to have meatloaf and macaroni salad for dinner tonight and then I fixed some Cinnamon rolls for a desert.
