How low can you get...Why is our U.S. President bowing to a ruling tyrant

What's wrong with this picture? Americans do not bow to royalty. In my view, when the royal is the ruling tyrant of a despotic regime, the wrong is compounded. Putting aside the breach of American protocol, It is akin to Jimmy Carter succumbing to Brezhnev's infamous kiss at the signing of the arms accord in Vienna in 1979. It is a disgrace. As in Carter's case, Obama's supplicant attitude signifies his spirit. In this respect I distinguish it from George Bush's otherwise embarrasing handholding with the the king. Every day there is a new embarrassment. Today, when President Obama met King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, our president did a full bow from the waist. This is never done! A U.S. president is never, never supposed to bow before foreign royalty. Is this another example of sheer ignorance? Is it another signal to the Muslim world? Whether intentional or not, it will be seen by many Muslims as the President of the United States engaging in “submission” to a Muslim leader http://menorahblog.typepad.com/menorah/2009/04/why-is-our-us-president-bowing-to-a-ruling-tyrant.html Any comments??

I would have though he'd have advisers who'd brush him up on foreign etiquette. Our president should not be making such easy to avoid mistakes. I'm not happy about it myself, but I think these claims that this mistake prove Obama is a closet Muslim are tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theories. Clearly this particular president will never be able to make a mistake concerning muslims without someone going "Aha! See, that proves he's really a muslim."

Strange how he didn't make the same mistake by bowing to the Queen...

What if he was a Muslim? Would that change your attitude about him?

"What if he was a Muslim? Would that change your attitude about him?" Well, yeah, because that would mean he adamantly lied about being a christian.

obama is just plain ignorant. he has no experience and obviously no one bothered to tell him about appropriate behavior when meeting these leaders. he wants to make friends with these leaders. hello? he won't be president forever and he wants to make friends after all these countries have done and their policies, etc. he is being submissive but like i said he is ignorant and his "plan" is stupid and it seems to me he is not taking any advice that he might be given.

In my very humble opinion it was a "boo-boo", nothing more and nothing less but it sure has provided the right with something to talk about given the trip has gone quite well otherwise. What concerns me is where the heck is kennyrose and why hasn't she been posting discussion after discussion about this? Annie

I know, I checked her profile last night and she hadn't been here in 5 days. I also hope there's nothing wrong. Maybe she's on vacation or something. Annie

Bowing down to a foreign leader is a pretty massive boo boo. Of course that doesn't offend me nearly as much as the way he degraded and criticized his own country to impress the Europeans. I don't think any president in the history of this nation has ever done that.

I don't know what the reasoning was behind it...if I could read minds I wouldn't be out of work, that's for sure! But, I do agree that it was inappropriate and will be viewed as a sign of submission by an American President by many.

I am outraged and horrified, but not surprised. He is simply showing the world what some of us have long known, that he is an agent for islamofascism.

Yet we still are expected to follow certain protocol when dealing with British Royalty. To me it's kind of a silly matter of "When in Rome..." Annie

They were in England and the ONLY royal the 0bama bowed to was the king of Saudi Arabia. He was the ONLY person in the room to do so, and his bow was not returned. Neither he nor his wife did it for the Queen of England while in England, but he saw fit to bow deeply for the king of Saudi Arabia. This is not a "when in Rome" issue, this is the issue of 0bama thinking he needed to BOW to the Saudi king and only the Saudi king. Americans don't bow, and the leader if the United States of America certainly should not be bowing to the king of one of the most oppressive islamic nations on Earth! He also should not be talking trash about Americans at all, and certainly not while on foreign soil.

Just like King Abdullah, Obama is largely of Arab ancestry. Even Obama's middle name is Hussein, an Arab name. Obama is just showing respect to a fellow Arab. As far as King Abdullah is concerned, is is less of a tyrant then many of the world leaders. I just wish that it were possible for Saudi Arabia to have freedom of religion so that Christian missionairies could go to Saudi Arabia and help the people there to be good christians.

Obama should be an American first. His Arab ancestry should have no bearings on his actions as president.

Interestingly, I have yet to read about this in any reliable news source. All I can find are youtube videos and blogs. (and the video is in Spanish). Seeing how the media jumped all over his unfortunate Special Olympics joke, I am wondering why they didn't report on this. I am thinking there is some reasonable explanation, but the anti-Obama bloggers jumped on it as a way to bash him. On a side note, we'll all be bowing to the Saudi king in 10 years or so, anyway. But Obama isn't to blame for that.

Of course you will not read anything that even slightly tarnishes the image of Obama. The American media must have made a pact with the devil to not let the american people see what an idiot Obama is.

His Special Olympics joke was made on prime time TV with millions of viewers. The media couldn't cover it up if they tried. This however was not on a popular television show and has been much easier for them to cover up. Fox News has covered this, but no liberal will ever believe anything on Fox News although they are throughly incapable of giving examples of why they believe it's a dishonest network. So far, only NBC has had employees that actively faked videos to smear someone.

Maybe he's hoping the King will give him a man dress, a prayer rug and a towel for his head. I wonder if he's going to bow to the ruler of China soon...

As we are already in debt to China it would not surprise me.

I think there is nothing wrong with that. To bow to someone does not mean you are being submissive or what. Sometimes humility will do the trick. And in this very challenging world, there is always a political way (better way) of doing something. Happy MyLotting!

What bowing means is based on the culture. In Arab culture, it is a sign of submission, accepting the superiority of the person you bow to. If he had bowed to the ruler of Japan, it would have been a standard greeting and Japan's ruler would have bowed in return. You have to look at the context and see it for what it was. He acknowledged the king of Saudi Arabia as a superior.

So if that is the case, the Arabs will be the only one who will think that Obama really submitted himself or Obama acknowledged the superiority of the said king. But the rest of the world...I doubt. We have different views about it, and we just really need to be open-minded. Don't be too shallow. Happy MyLotting!
