Hi I have been teaching ESL to kids for about 18 years but the youngest kids I have ever taught were 4 and 5 year olds. From May I will be taking over a friends class, she has real little ones 2 years old. I have a few ideas but just wondering if anybody has taught to such little ones and what they did! Jacks

I am not a teacher, but I do remember the kids that came to my Day Care. I remember that we would watch Sesame Street and I would say the words with the kids and the letters. We would make a game of it. They also liked jumping on my mini trampoline and we would count to 100. I always loved playing games with them. Maybe you could play some games that would teach basic sounds and words.

If they can read and write, then you can start with words. If they already past that level, try building sentences and teach very basic of grammar. For sentences, you can start with giving them jumble words that they can arrange into correct sentences.

Dream- I've taught ESL students, but not in a formal ESL class, they just happened to be in my resource room for special education. Here is a website I came across called Everything ESL that you mind find helpful. It seems to have lesson plans designed for pre-school age. http://www.everythingesl.net/ I wish I had more. The best I can offer as a special education teacher is to make a check list of the needs of each child individually and make time to hit bench marks with each child in one-one sessions within your day to day routines. I'd do big books with them too. Most children that age love Big Books, and you can check them out your school library or the regular library. Namaste-Anora
