a few years ago i was bleaching the top portion of my hair and then dying it the lightest possible ash blonde.
it was almost platinum.
anyways i for some reason dyed over it a dark burgundy and immediately regreted it!
so in order to get my platinum back i had to bleach it, and i mean A LOT. ALL IN ONE DAY TOO.
this was a BIG mistake!
i eventually developed a small bald spot on the top of my head from all the bleach (it grew back but took a long time!).
but worse then that, my hair decided to break all at the same level.
so i had LONG hair down my back, except for the upper portion of my head, which all broke (in time mind you, not all at once).
it is a few years later and my 'mullet' has grown down to my shoulders now.
but it still looks awful. the rest of my hair is still way longer.
so please kids...be careful with the bleach :)

I used to bleach my hair and it's definately something that should only be done every couple of months. I didn't have anything that horriblle happen, but it did really dry out my hair. I started dying it darker and I loved it. Just pay attention to what works with your skin tone and you'll get the best results. I'm glad to be well past my bleach blond years!!

what do you mean by bleaching of the hair. anyways, i don't put much color on my hair i have done it once to my black hair. i put some brown on it. still now though it has returned to black color after it grew long, the brown is still visible when my hair is cash against the light of the sun or any bright lights.
i dno't like putting stuff on my hair cause i know that the hair is much sensitive to chemicals and also you mentioned that it can affect the scalp and so i will agree avoid it.

Thanks for your tip about the "bleaching stuff".however ,I have done something that completely destroyed my hair~ several days ago,I broke up with my boyfriend.
I was heartbreaking and filled in a flood of sorrow. Suddenly,I had an impulse of changing my hairstyle.I thought it was his losing because I would become more and more beautiful, wasnt it? From that day on ,I have the black curl. Nevertheless, the new problem is coming. My hair turned to be dry just like the straw. So,think twice before you(girls) have a hairdo.

That's why I'd leave mess'n with bleach to the pros! Though it's cheaper to try yourself.
I'm sorry you had to endure a "mullet" for a while. Hubby keeps threatening me that he's going to grow one! EW!

I believe i've only bleached my hair once or twice, and other times I just dyed it. I did this a few times with different colors but didn't like it. I decided to stay with the same color and now I don't even dye my hair. I can believe that bleach and even hair dye will do crazy things to your hair. I think specially formulated shampoo's are supposed to help, but whether it does or not I guess would depend on the hair type and hair damage already there.
Have you tried cutting your hair really short and letting it grow back? in the mean time you can use hair extenstions, a wig, or just wear a hat.

My best friend used to bleach her hair all of the time. Since I grew up in the salon lifestyle (my mom worked as a nail tech), I learned a lot about hair. The bleach does horrible things to your scalp. It can dry it out to the point that hair will stop growing there, for most this is temporary.
But when hair does grow back, the follicles are so weakened that as they grow, they break. It takes time for the roots to regain all the needed proteins for hair to grow healthier, without the breaking. You might have even noticed that your hair was drier and needed much more conditioning and treatments. That is the best way to regenerate healthy hair.
My best friend has now been told that she can never bleach her hair again. Her hair has permanently thinned out and she has not only a few bald patches on her scalp, but chemical burns to her scalp that occasionally break out from weather or hormones.
I recommend buying and using scalp and hair treatment for over processed hair. That will start getting your over all head in better quality to encourage healthy hair growth.
