Do you brush your teeth at least twice a day? It is recommended that we brush twice a day to maintain good oral health, but I actually know many people who do not bother and only brush once a day instead.

Yes! Confidence and not having smelly breath are definitely linked!

Yes I suppose part of it does have to do with which foods you may have been eating during the day.

I brush at least 3 times a day. I keep a toothbrush by my kitchen sink and one in the bathroom so I can brush frequently. I also floss at least once a day and keep special tiny brushes you can pass between your teeth at my desk so that I don't get plaque and tartar. I have receding gums because I wasn't good about flossing and I don't want them to get any worse!

I didn't realise that receding gums were a result of poor flossing habits! Thanks for the information.

I'm glad I could inform you. Plaque turns to hard tartar and forces the gums away from the teeth. That's why it's so important to floss daily and keep the plaque off your teeth!

Thanks again. I'll be sure to pay more attention to flossing and let my family know too. x

I brush my teeth twice a day, sometimes more if my mouth feels unclean or I have eaten something smelly. My children clean twice a day, morning and night but very often ask if they can clean them again during the day again depending on what they have been eating

It's a good habit to have as long as you are not too harsh on your teeth.

You are right. Many people neglect their oral health even though it is so vital.

I tend to brush my teeth three or more times a day. I always tend to brush in the morning then in the afternoon after dinner then a night before bed.

I try and brush once a day but sometimes go few days inbetween brushing. Not good I know but upto now I have no fillings or dental problems. So I guess its not how often you brush I gues sits the quality of brushing that counts.

Have to say that I disagree and you are very lucky not to have any problems with your teeth. Bacteria build up on your teeth after every single meal and drink that you consume. I hope your oral health continues to be good but I do advise you try to brush at least every day. It only takes a few minutes to do after all.

yes thats true but if you eat crunchy fruit ie apples etc etc they help to naturally clean your teeth to a certain extent it also depends whether or not you are in a high fluoride area also, there are many factors that affect your oral health not just cleaning 3 times a day.

I appreciate what you are saying, but if you do not clean your teeth then you are just multiplying the chance that you many have a serious oral health problem.

I can feel lazy in the evening too, but I try to always push myself to brush before bed as I always feel much better for it and therefore it is worth it!

I usually brushed my teeth 3 times per day. 2 every I am shower and one before going to bed, I want my teeth be strong and health. I fear going to dentist (I have trauma about it). I also gargle with Listerine mouthwash.

I am sure you will not have any problems with the dentist as long as you take such good care of your teeth. Always good to have a check-up anyway though.

I brush my teeth every morning, no matter what! You have to get rid of the scum and morning breath!! As for how many times I brush after that, it all depends. I try to brush after I eat dinner (as long as I'm at home.) It helps me not snack for the rest of the evening. It's also good for my teeth too. I sometimes brush in the middle of the day too. It really just all depends on how my mouth is feeling.

Yes totally agree with you on the morning breath thing! I also know what you mean about brushing in the evening. It seems like a waste if you eat something after brushing therefore definitely would keep one off the late-night snacks!

Hi, UK_Shree! It's funny you brought up this kind of topic, but I agree with you. A lot of people don't bother to brush their teeth. They have a lot of reasons, or should we say 'excuses' for not ding so. I've heard from someone that he flosses or gargles mouthwash anyways so why bother brushing. Well, flossing or using mouthwash are so different from brushing, and I don't think they're enough. Personally, I brush more than twice a day. I made it a habit to do so, and I thank my parents for it because they trained us to brush every after meal. It also says something about your oral hygiene. ^_^

It definitely is a statement. And nobody likes to be around someone with smelly breath. I guess if you train children from a young age, then they want to continue brushing twice a day because they get used to it.

I brush my teeth at least 3 times a day. Once right when I get up, then again after I shower and then at night before bed. Once in awhile I brush during the day depending on what I eat.

Sounds sensible. Just out of interest though, why after your shower? I don't know many people who do that.

I always brush my teeth once a day.It is my habit and also i think my teeth and my body are healthy. Some scientist ever said we should brush our teeth after every meal everyday. Also original inhabitant in tropicalzonerainforest never brush their teeth but they are still so healthy. And how should we do? So in my opinion, how many times we shoud brush our teeth everyday is decided by our habit.Every body has her or his own selection...
@UK_Shree (3603)

I agree to an extent. I still think brushing twice a day is sensible as it eliminates certain risks which are involved with food particles that get left behind on our teeth after meals.

We've always been told (at least here), even in toothpaste commercials, to brush three times a day. I guess for some people that is impractical. But I brush three times a day. If I can't, and only brush twice a day, I make sure to use mouthwash twice a day instead of just once a day, like I usually do. Mouthwash is a must for me. Kill any extra germs and all.

I have never heard of brushing three times a day but I guess healthcare professionals may give different advice depending on which part of the world we live in. I used to have a friend that brushed after every single meal!
