Should people work if they don't financially need to work?

I have always felt that they should NOT work if they do not have a financial need to work. I have felt this way even before the economy was bad but I feel even stronger about this now. You are taking opportunity for someone else to have that job. You are literally taking food out of someone else's mouth. I know that is not going to be a popular opinion to some people but maybe now that times are so bad more people will agree with me. If you are bored and need something to do go volunteer somewhere but don't take a job that someone who has a family to support and actually NEEDS the money to feed his kids or pay for a roof over his head. What does everyone else think? Unless you are out there creating a job for someone else by what you are doing then I personally think it is just selfish.

I am willing to go out on a limb and agree with you completely. I think that people who actually need jobs in order to live should be given priority over people who already have all the money they need to live (like people who got a huge inheritance or something like that). Ideally, I think everyone should be able to have a satisfying, useful job to provide for themselves and occupy their time; however, in this world, that dream is simply not a reality. There are not as many jobs as there are people, and I think that it would provide more jobs for those who need them if those who don't need them step back.

It's up to them. They have the right to choose whether they still want to work or not. It's not their fault that the economy's bad or if other people are finding hard to have a job. Yes, a lot of financially independent people are really creating jobs for someone else, but they still have the right to just work if they want to. =)
