Will Ciao.com really recover?

There seems to be such an increase in 'nonsense' reviews on Ciao.com; it is next to impossible to enjoy using the site if you intend to read and rate other people's reviews...
I for one get quite annoyed now when I read many of these reviews and surely users cannot be expected to report all those as they are too many and you'd not get to write reviews yourself, I do not know how admin keep up..
Another attempt to read and rate the new reviews today was quit after half an hour...there is just too many 'fake' reviews and clicking cartels going on that I just quit all together and rated at Ciao UK and Dooyoo instead which both have better quality reviews and it's a more enjoyable experience..
What do you think? Do you think Ciao.com will recover from all this abuse? I write some reviews on the site too so can understand about the cheaters but surely consumers who see such reviews will not give the site the time of day and look on another site and surely they are losing out on commission that way.. (in speculation of course..)
Seeing as there's less quality reviews, I assume the good users have left too, what's your take on the situation?

I have left ciao for quite some time now, and i have to admit that i'm not a good writer in there.. But at the same time, i'm not as bad like those whom are still wrting all the fake reviews.. lol =D
I guess, all those ple now are just writing for the sake of earning and not caring of their quality.. Just because admin has got no time to catch them on that, so they are able to keep on abusing the system.. I wonder WHY DO MODERATORS OF CIAO in MYLOT, only catch ple whom ask ple to rate their reviews, but not catching those ple whom are doing BAD reviews?? lol =D

True...
About the bad reviews, it's because not many people report them, but there's a section under the abuse in member center for 'nonsense reviews' and think more people need to report them

I dun think there will be much members reporting those nonsense reviews as it will mean a cut in their earnings as well.. So for the sake of earning, whatever nonsense or how ridiculous a review is to them, they will only see it as a chance to earn that extra one cent.. haha

Hi there!
I had been gone from ciao for almost 3 months. I visited the site just last week and I found out that I always have to add a user as a friend so I can log in. Just the way I have to log in is already a hassle to me.
With regards to the reviews, this is what happens when a site becomes known to others. A lot of people will come and join and try to earn on the site neglecting the real meaning and purpose of the site. All they wanted is to earn.
I haven't seen the new reviews for a long time now. I haven't read any from its new users or even the senior members. But before I took a vacation from the site there has been some plagiarism on the site already that's why they removed the earnings for every review submitted, rated or unrated. I'm sure ciao can recover from this massive fake reviews. The site is owned by microsoft and its a big company and for sure they have good staffs to handle the problem.
Happy posting!

People I've referred to the site from Ciao UK are leaving Ciao.com regularly due to the revenge ratings and what they see as Ciao's slow reaction to removing the cheaters from the site. There is a ridiculous amount of over-rating going on and people with red, orange and bronze dots really annoy me when they rate drivel with a H rating or above. I've seen supposed "good members" of the site rating a load of jumbled up words which make no sense in English as there is no sentence structure and random foreign words thrown in (which shows that they've been put through some online translator generally) with H, VH and even with E ratings. I just wanna scream when I see this. I'm really sad about the people I referred to Ciao.com wanting to leave and those who've already left as they feel the site is just one big joke and they don't want their reviews associated with the huge amount of drivel that's on there. DO you know how many people on the site have written reviews about Sony Ericsson Experia? And Windows Vista? And MS Office 2007, etc? Just cos these reviews pay 3 cents per rating? And of those 100s or 1000s of review I can imagine that only a handful of the people have actually got experience of the product/op sys/software in question.
Personally people that I have been reporting seem to be getting deleted much quicker of late so I know action is taken against cheats, but it's hard to convince others to stay when revenge rating is still rife on the site and it feels like the revenge ratings will never get removed as it takes a while...
Basically to answer your question, Ciao.com CAN recover but drastic action is needed and it's going to take even longer. Every 10 people that get deleted, another 20 fraudsters sign up...!

I think the screening Oreocookie is talking about would need more admin but would work... Is it what Dooyoo uses? you know when your points are pending, then theyy get awarded. That's the sort of thing that would work but I suppose it would take a huge amount of work for an 'international site' which has a larger user base.
Didn't know about those 3 cents per rating reviews you mentionned anonymili but I did see those products come up many times in the new reviews list..explains it
You're right about the drastic action coz if losing reviewers isn't bad enough, losing potential customers is another.

I think it's hard for ciao to clearing those fake reviews ... and the simple way for them to use is banning several IP country, and it's result to everyone, including the good reviewer, Ciao did not announce the news at their site, so i think it will be last forever ... in fact the decision brings the bad things for both, the good reviewer and for ciao live ...

Speaking of Ciao, I know its unfair to be cheated by members that you pay for their own work which some only copied it from others. But then I am disappointed with ciao for not leaving any advance announcement or message in emails saying that this will happen.. I have sent them an email as well asking if I will get paid this month and if Ciao will still be open for Asian countries-- if its yes or no its definitely not right not giving us access for some work very hard for their reviews.. It's bad that other users who are honest are included in the banned areas.. Ciao did not even responded, I was expecting they would respond day after my email based from before( I sent them email as well regarding my earnings)

I am sure Ciao would eventually update as to what happened with the IPs from those countries.. just surprised it's taken them this long to make any announcements in their member center or to amend their T&Cs to this effect but they are under no obligation I suppose, I dunno..
myLot for one announced about not paying via moneybookers anymore to inform those affected members and think the better move would've been to do like-wise but you never know it is some sort of glitch?? again, I dunno..

I signed up at Ciao recently and immediately I received messages from people requesting to be friends and saying they had rated me and hoped I would do the same. I tried to reciprocate but one person only reviewed electronics and there were no products I had used to be able to say if the review was useful or not. I have only submitted a few movie reviews and I have since signed up at helium and AC so I am putting my efforts into my articles for those sites for now. I haven't logged in to Cia for several days.

I also don't use it some days now but when I do I try to make the most of the little time there and it is quite tedious trying to read and rate some reviews; you can't even understand them... It just seems to be really going downhill and the cheaters seem to be taking over the site; It's a shame

I know what you mean...Ciao has so many people that are either making absolutely no sense in their reviews, or copying/pasting what they find elsewhere....
You sift through tons and tons of reviews, hoping one actually makes sense...and then you are barraged with people thinking that they just post anything as a review and they should end up getting paid for it...and then you might...*MIGHT*...see one or two reviews that actually make sense...
....that's not the way it should work...but it would also be hard or nearly impossible for them to keep up with it all the time...
Maybe they should hire us to filter through as many crap reviews as we can, and make us some extra cash, whaddya say marina321? :)

Yes, there are many spam at CIAO but I believe CIAO staff are on their way fixing the problem. I hate those ppl whose spam, their ruin a good system just for quick money.
I have 45 review there, and have 340 friends but you know my rate ratio is 3:1 thats mean I have rate my friends 3 times more then they have rate mine...this is crazy.
When I screening my friends list, and I found out that many of friends in my list have no review but they have higher community point then mine. It is outrages and unbelievable.
Until know I have purge what I call "not true friends" twice, and have sent out several messages to stop the spam. It's work nicely, the spam start lessen recently. But I'm not sure it is because of my act purging unwanted friends or CIAO staffs doing their jobs.
I hope CIAO could recover quickly, since I have trouble logging for almost a week now.
Any idea for a good review site beside CIAO, review stream, and compareby.us? I've been a members of triond, hubpages, and squidoo but not too active lately.
