Some people....

you just have to wonder how they make it through life when it seems as if they are walking through it completely blindly?!?!? I've been in the customer service field for more than 10 years, and boy have I heard alot of stupid questions over that time!!! It's also difficult to understand how some people are even able to have a checking account when they don't even know how to manage it?!?!? So many people go the ATM to get a balance inquiry, and always believe the balance they see, completely forgetting that they have outstanding checks and debits and take out all the money currently in their account....then the next day or a couple days later when they are overdrawn..they say.."why are you guys charging me?...I had money in there..." key word there being "HAD" Again I say, how do they make it through life without the slightest correct concept of how to maintain a bank account. Maybe it's their parents fault? I work in the banking profession, therefore I will make sure that my children learn early on the value of saving, how to keep a savings account, and how to balance a checking account. To me this just seems to be a skill no one should live without. Plus, with federal regulation always changing as far as what you can do with a savings account, you almost have no choice but to have a checking account for transaction. Get with the times people...the electronic age is upon us but if you don't wake up and learn how to use it, you'll be left in the dust.

I have to agree with you on this one except my experience has a bit more of a spin on it.
I know a girl who is 28 and barely has life together. She doesn't know how to save and will openly admit it saying "I know i have a problem but..." Always giving one excuse after the other instead of just taking ownis for what you do and 'learn' how to correct the behavior. I can't stand how she gets a free pass by the government. I can understand if someone is jobless or simply put their job doesn't give them enough to 'live' However she has gone out and spent all of her money on useless things. She had a perfectly fine working car and decided to trade it in for a Kia Rio. WHen she get's help from the government you'd think that money would go towards paying off debt or go into savings but no... she decides to go out buy a 400$ phone (the plan she can't even afford) and then buy a Wii. Oh did I mention she's pregnant. She has a savings account but I wonder if she even knows how it works. She sees money as something that needs to be burnt as soon as she gets it. I'm annoyed at how someone who is that age can be in soo much denial. When she's offered help at certain times she takes it willingly at other times when she should take it she doesn't. Example. We offered her a place to stay for the time being till she finds a place. Her answer was "I spoke with my mom and I want to try to make it on my own" As admirable as that is now's not the time to try to do it on your own with a child no more than 2 months away from being born.
I'm sorry about my rant but your topic brought up a subtopic that i had to speak about.
The problem isn't with the 'electronic age' the problem is that what happens if the electronic age fails or is no longer? We have lost sight of how to do things the old way. I can honestly say more than half of the world would be dumb founded and lost without electronics. As easy as it is for us to learn how to use electronics it's not so easy for us to learn the old way. The learning curve is different depending on the age group. I'm sure many older people are infuriated with the fact that we rely on spell checkers, spread sheets and calculators to do our things for us now a days. Until we've been in their shoes we can't judge. We have always been around technology so it was easier to learn. It's not entirely easy to have something as big as computers internet etc and have to learn from square one without any help.

I definitely agree with you on the fact that we would probably be lost without the electronic age. I am woman enough to admit that my elders are definitely wiser than I will ever be...and they know the value of a dollar...and they know the value of hard work. I think it has become too easy for people to turn to the government even when there's nothing wrong with them and get free money. I have to work hard...why shouldn't you? You know what I mean? I just get so frustrated when I see people who don't work and have several children with more money than me and able to spend it as they wish...no questions asked. I'm married with a new baby and have to watch every dime we spend...it's just not fair.
