The British Government has just taken another step in their constant endeavour to turn the UK into a Police State. As of today, EVERY E mail and Internet phone call (Skype, IM etc) that is sent or received in the UK will be kept by the hosting ISP for 12 months. Allegedly this is another step in "protecting" British citizens in the ceaseless war against terror. The recipe for cherry cake that I sent to my Mum earlier today will now be liable for a deep forensic investigation to see if I am really passing on subversive messages. Fun living in the 21st Century isn't it?

This is very interesting to know P1key!!! I have some friends in the U.K. that I converse with via e-mail and while I truly am Not trying to pass "secret subversive" messages, some of them may be a bit too racy for the British Government, especially considering I am definitely not sending recipes for "cherry cake"! Makes one wonder what they would do if they got their hands on a really juicy e-mail...maybe take it home and get "other" enjoyments out of it!?
As always thanks for the info. P1key, I can always count on you to keep everyone up in the news on your side of the pond!!

Well, we're not far behind you. My country has taken away a lot of our rights and privileges in the name of "protecting" us. The new president will probably accelerate the abuse. Our tax cheating treasury secretary doesn't even know what's in our Constitution.
I hope you took all the code words out of the recipe, we wouldn't want them to have any clues to your taking over the country and making desserts free and mandatory.

everything is getting crazier in the world each day. but i think as long as we have nothing to hide that there is nothing to fear. as long as they will not take our internet connection i will not be bothered cause i really need internet connection a lot.

As I've been out of the country, this is the first time I've heard about this. I wonder what they'll think of the picture I circulated of me and hubby riding camels, because noone would have believed it if I just told them. What secrets could I have been whispering to the dark skinned man in the long dress who was holding the camel?
Actually I wonder if I could get a job vetting everyone's emails. It could make for an interesting life.

Have you ever seen the movie "Eagle Eye"? It's beyond comprehension how much privacy we lose, the more and more we embrace technologies. I guess you'd better not be sending any recipes for "Bomb Alaska" to your Mum anytime soon either, otherwise your Government may think you have ties with North Korea!

dont get me wrong here but with a giant population of muslims in your country they could scan my bed for all i care and let em get their rocks off. im a tru believer that if your not doing anything wrong dont worry about it, now, 20 years ago i would deffinitly have a problem with it and be looking out my window every minute.

Oh guess who they are going after? Christians. I do not live in Great Britain, but it is getting dangerous all over the world. And what about us writers? I mean is it going to be that we have to write nursery rhymes, and stories that only your great grandmother or two year old could read. I mean if they read about all the blood and gore in my stories, they might think I am a terrorist plotting to destroy your mind. (evil laugh - heh, heh, heh, heh, heh!)

Well I heard in Great Britain that it is dangerous to go in territories that have a large Muslim population and the only intolerance that Christians have is that they believe that there is only one way to heaven, through Jesus Christ and by the way, the greatest murders were done by Atheistic governments like
China, the Soviet Union. And Christians are responsible for the abolition of slavery, child labor, and other ills. There was this nurse who wanted to pray with a patient- the patient asked her to, and they told this nurse that she was not allowed to. So if you want to speak of intolerance, what about those who forbid Christians to adopt, to tell their children what is right or wrong, who are not to pray in Jesus name?
Intolerance? I think those who say Christians are intolerant, are that way themselves.

All that I can say is don't believe all that you read. I'd walk through a moslem area anytime in preference to some of the white inner city parts. All moslems aren't terrorists. In fact hardly any are. But we have allowed ourselves to believe that the mindless rantings of a lunatic fringe somehow speak for them all. In exactly the same way that most Irish people weren't members of the IRA. But a nasty minority were.

Fun you call this fun pike living today..it is really scary...excuse my ignorance but what does ISP mean. The government annoy me immensly, Gordon Brown and Darling should be chucked in a river with a brick tied to their ankles..plus an anchor! phew..must calm down, but honestly I can see they are looking out for our safety etc but don't you think this is going to the extreme? We probably won't be able to do anything in our homes next without the government seeing soon...hugs littleowl

Which reminds me of another discussion that I almost responded to about whether modern technology is more good or bad. And I'd have to say more good than bad, but boy is there room for abuse!

That thing about broadband in every home does puzzle me a bit when some people are still living in houses that are not fit for anyone. I understand now.

I hope the forensics enjoy investigating the cherry cake; that's the kind of investigation I would enjoy, lol!
This is rather worrying. Where will it all end? It is starting to resemble 1984 a bit round here.. It must have been a strange cost-benefit analysis that came out with this idea being a good one; it seems like it would be very costly, with no guaranteed results. It'll be interesting to see if it helps uncover any terrorist intelligence. If it does then great, but have to say I'm a bit dubious.

Same here pikefish, I find the whole lot of what government's are doing to be ludicrous and off the wall. I guess they are trying to make it look like there is a terrorist under every bed to justify this power grab over the people of both the UK and right here in the USA. Disturbing, very disturbing. It is all happening incrementally, right under our collective noses. I have no idea where all this constant surveillance will end, but I hope and pray to God that it comes to and end and everybody can live in freedom again.

Yes, P1key, you make some good points, and it's very scary. You're right about if they are putting these censoring-type measures on emails, why not our post? Disturbing.
It is very scary that they're doing these extreme things, making the situation seem a lot worse that it is, and panicking everyone. It's like the government has suddenly developed a Daily Mail mentality, (or are trying to pander to the fears of DM readers.. at everybody else's expense).

The U.S. isn't far behind, they are about to pass a similar bill here.
Only thing is, we are going to have a Second American Revolution and throw all the bums out soon...

It wouldn't be nice for a revolution here but we should be throwing out the bums here...we just seem to be the dustbin of the world..there are quite a few unwanted people here still stiff upper lip as GB would say oops I meant Gordon Brown!

Don't feel bad. They are trying to make us put Radio Frequency Bar Code Ear Tags in all of our Canadian-born sheep by 2012!
What do you think of that?

Gee, I can only imagine the thrills they'll have at MI5 when MY little email contributions pop up on their radars! I'll have people bashing down the door in no time, and lining the street with flak-jackets and tasers. Good luck to them - keeps them in a job, which is good for the employment stats!

Well how interesting! What next? The world has gone mad, mad I tell you! I hope it doesn't affect us here in Australia although I'm sure it will before too long. How embarrassing; the thought that someone may be examining my emails! It's quite scary actually, are they going to tap our phones? Or are they doing that already? Are all new cars going to come with tracking devices? Not happy... I feel we are losing control here!

This is the nice action taken by UK government. I hope they can track terror activities with this. I will be very happy to listen if indian government also take this type of actions and protect the country.
